The Rock Cycle Poem Everybody Needs a Rock Sedimentary Rock Has been formed in layers Often found near water sources With fossils from decayers. I’m sorry for kids who don’t have a rock for a friend. Then there’s igneous rock Here since Earth was born Molten lava, cooled and hardened. That’s how it is formed. I’m sorry for kids who only have TRICYCLES BICYCLES HORSES ELEPHANTS GOLDFISH THREE-ROOM PLAYHOUSES FIRE ENGINES WIND-UP DRAGONS AND THINGS LIKE THATif they don’t have a rock for a friend. These two types of rocks Can also be transformed With pressure, heat and chemicals; Metamorphic they’ll become. -Author Unknown Sand Sand at the beach. Sand at the shore. Sand in the ocean On the ocean floor. Sand in the desert, Sand on the ground, Sand in the sandstorm Blowing all around! Sand from rock that has Crumbled into grains Sand in a sand dune Shaped by wind and rains. Sand on an island, Sand in the sea. Sand in the seabox For you and me. By Meish Goldish By Byrd Baylor A Rock Makes an Excellent Puppy A rock makes an excellent puppy. They’re practically almost the same. Except that a puppy’s rambunctious; A rock is a little more tame. It’s true that a rock’s not as hyper. It may not chase after a ball. And, often as not, when you call it, It won’t even hear you at all. It doesn’t annoy you with barking; It quietly sits on a shelf. A rock makes an excellent puppy. That’s what I keep telling myself. By Kenn Nesbitt
