NURSING ELECTIVE COURSE OFFERING NU 370: CARDIAC ARRHYTHMIAS & NURSING CARE Fall 2013 Thursday 5 – 6:50PM FACULTY: Lisa Flood DNP, RN, CNE Professor School of Nursing Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certified COURSE DESCRIPTION: NU 370 Cardiac Arrhythmias & Nursing Care is a two credit nursing elective lecture course which will cover the fundamentals of single lead basic cardiac rhythm interpretations and current treatments. Upon completion, students will be able to recognize common cardiac arrhythmias and describe appropriate nursing care. PREREQUISITES: BI 104 or BI 201 & BI 202 NU 201, NU 202, NU 211, NU 212, NU 221 & NU 231 Or instructor permission COURSE OBJECTIVES: By the completion of this course, students will have the knowledge to: 1. 2. 3. 4. Describe the electro-physiologic basis of normal cardiac rhythms and arrhythmias. Interpret single lead cardiac rhythms and arrhythmias in a systematic manner. Identify the physiologic consequences of each arrhythmia. Describe the appropriate therapeutic treatments for arrhythmias.
