22 August 2015 National Liquorland Rover Winterberg Enduro Written Riders Briefing The Rover club wish you a warm welcome and we hope you will have a safe and enjoyable ride. This year’s event is somewhat special for us with it being held back where it all began. For some of the senior and master riders I am sure some memories of yester year will return. Many of the paths have not been raced since the early 80’s and others the mid 90’s. The total distance of the loop is 47.2km. There are three specials namely Special 1:MX Special (2.5km), 2: Extreme Special (3.2km) and 3: Terrain Special (8km). On the first lap, Special 1 and 2 are counted but not Special 3. From the second lap onwards, all the specials will be count. Club Masters and Club Novice riders do NOT do Special 2 – Extreme Special. We have recently had an abundance of rain so the rivers are full and deep. The route starts with your MX special followed by a 6km easy ride along single track paths. This brings you to the Extreme Special. The extreme special begins with some off camber climbs and descents followed by a river crossing and a steep climb. Endo gorge follows, last used in the 1996 Winterberg. You then have twin tracks all the way home with a few river crossings. Be careful of the crossings as they are fairly deep. Their base is sold rock which should not deteriorate during the day. From the special you then follow twin track paths to the top of Kaal Voet, a 2 km technical river bed section. This will bring you to the start of the Terrain Special. The Terrain Special consists of gradual climbs and descents over rocky terrain into twin track clay paths. The remainder of the route traverses over single and twin track paths with a variety of short climbs and descents with the odd river crossing. Please will ALL riders take note of the following few points. It is compulsory for national competitors to ride with a GPS. There are marshals along the route, including tick marshals. It is not the duty of a marshal to direct you or to give you instructions on which way to go. There are road crossing where the marshals will be writing down bike numbers of those riders who fail to obey the rules applied to a stop board. The onus is on the rider to know what he/she has to do at a stop sign. Should you DNF during the race, We require you to come and give your name and bike number to marshal at Main Control (start of the race) in conjunction with your incident report form. There will be a penalty in forced to those that don’t adhere to this rule. This eliminates the waste time by the organizes looking for riders on the route that have already gone home. In order to be deemed a finisher of the event, you HAVE to pass through the timing point at the end of the race. Should you fail to do this, you will waste valuable minutes and could end up being classed as a DNF. Once you have finished the race, please hand your Incident Report Form in to Main Control. This applies to both finishers and non-finishers alike. NOTE: In your documentation envelope, you have a voucher for Liqui Moly products. At prize giving you need to hand in this voucher in order to collect your products. Additional meal tickets are on sale @ R50.00 a ticket.
