About the Ensemble:

Founded in Chapel Hill, North Carolina in December 2012, the Chapel Hill Contemporary Music Ensemble consists of composers and performers from throughout the community who are interested in bringing “new classical music” to light! While the majority of our musicians are students enrolled at The University of North Carolina at

Chapel Hill, we are always looking to include community musicians and venues in our projects.

The majority of the music we perform was written in the 21st century and because of this is often unfamiliar to our audiences. CHCME works side by side with student composers on new works as a kind of “laboratory ensemble.”

Composers enter rehearsal with sheet music prepared and work freely with the group to experiment with the many aspects of composition, such as instrumental timbre and orchestration. This contributes to the dialogue between composers and performers. For young and experienced composers alike, this opportunity is invaluable to the composition process, but is often quite difficult to attain.

The Chapel Hill Contemporary Music Ensemble is currently under the direction of Richard Drehoff Jr. To learn more about the ensemble, visit our website at www.ChapelHillCME.org.
