Dawn Fechter Collection Plan 11/19/11 Collection Map The following map show the areas of the library that we need to focus on when ordering to better serve the patrons in Inglewood. We Plan on order 1500 new books for these collections. Mystery Mystery books are often assigned to Students in English. Many students come searching for Mystery books. We have a small collection of Mystery books and many are very outdated. We need to update and add to our collection. 300 Books = 30% of total Add 300 books at 10 each= $3,000 Muslim Culture Books We have a quite a number of patrons who are from the Muslim culture. We have a small collection of books that are written for the Muslim Culture but we really need to update it and order books on all reading levels that are books written for Children in the Muslim culture and that are written by Muslims 300 Books = 30% of total Add 300 books at 15 each= $4,500 Biographies We have a big biography collection since many students have assignment with many different kinds of biographies. While it is a large collection many books are outdated and we could use some more variety in biographies. To update this collection it would be good to weed less circulated, outdated items and fill it with a wider variety of people including more recent biographies on singer, actors and sport figures. 200 books= 20% of total Add 200 books at 20 dollars each= $4000 Graphic Novels Graphic novels are important to struggling readers. Many reluctant readers are willing to read Graphic novels They can also help struggling students grasp concepts. Teachers can use non-fiction graphic novels that go with the curriculum to help them in teaching a lesson. We will spend $2,250 each year on increasing our Muslim culture books. We will focus on getting fiction books by Muslim authors and books that reflect their culture. 3 Biographies $4,000 over 2 years Our yearly Book budget is $15,000. We will spend $2,000 each year on updating our similar themes and topics. Mystery book are often used as reading material for students. Mystery book are also requested for pleasure reading as well. Our small, outdated collection could be used more if it had new and interesting mysteries available. Inglewood has a small but important group of Muslim patrons that live in Inglewood and use the library. It is important that we have books that speak to that population. Fiction books written my Muslims or that deal with Muslim issues are important for us to have available for these patrons. We will get nonfiction graphic novels as well as fiction graphic novels to help get reluctant readers reading! stories about artists and summarize the readings in short reports, telling how the artists mirrored or affected their time period or culture. With so many budget cuts getting reluctant readers checking out books is something we focus on.
