Research activities would be expected to lead to successful grant applications, scientific publications, and knowledge transfer to stakeholders and the wider general public. Senior Lecturers/Readers are expected to lead the development of research areas, including collaborative research and grant applications, and mentoring junior staff. The Department’s objectives in teaching are to maintain a high standard in the provision of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes which are currently being offered and planned in the future. The post holder will be expected to contribute to these high standards by providing high quality teaching and making significant contributions to the student experience. Senior Lecturers/Readers are expected to lead new developments in teaching and improving the student experience. The Department’s efforts to meet its objectives are supported by a number of management and leadership tasks which are distributed amongst the members of academic staff. The post holder will be expected to contribute to these tasks. Senior Lecturers/Readers will be required to play a larger role in management and leadership and to contribute to departmental strategy. Finally, the post holder is expected to display an attitude of collaboration and collegiality both with existing members of the Department and the wider community. Page 1 Career and Professional Development Activities Lecturers To contribute to the teaching and development of academic programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level. To engage in knowledge transfer, continuous professional development, consultancy and other forms of external engagement, as appropriate. Senior Lecturers/Readers To develop, promote and manage the effective delivery of knowledge transfer, continuous professional development, consultancy and other forms of external engagement, as appropriate. From time to time you may be asked to assist in the facilitation of CPD activities. This will form part of your substantive role and you will not receive additional payment for these activities. Main duties and responsibilities 1 To conduct research, attract external funding and publish in appropriate peerreviewed and internationally-recognised academic journals commensurate with the post holder’s stage of career. 2 Collaborate with existing members of staff within the Department of Psychology, and with staff in other departments as appropriate. 3 Contribute lectures and seminars on undergraduate and postgraduate units, including coordination of specific units. 4 Specific contribution to health and health related topics at UG and PG level including teaching of health interventions and cognitions 5 Lecture planning and evaluation. 6 Setting and marking of examinations and coursework. 7 Deliver tutorial and pastoral support to students. 8 Supervise placement students. 9 Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations. 10 Supervise postgraduate research students. 11 Contribute to departmental meetings and attendance at Boards of Examiners. 12 Undertake administrative roles as agreed with the Head of Department commensurate with the post holder’s stage of career.
