Alumni Relations
 Commencement
Alumni Relations is seeking distinguished alumni to serve as gonfalon bearers at Commencement. These
are the individuals who carrier the flags of each college and lead graduates into and out of the
commencement ceremony. If you know of a distinguished alumni who should be asked to represent
your college, please let Alumni Relations know (alumnirelations@uaa.alaska.edu).

Green & Gold Gala
June 14th is the official Green & Gold Gala Kick-off breakfast. The Green & Gold Gala will not occur until
September 28th at the Hotel Captain Cook, but the excitement starts building with this breakfast.
Alumni Relations will host our distinguished alumni from past galas well as event sponsors. Last year the
gala raised more $83,000 for student scholarships. Breakfast guests will get a sneak peak at this year's
gala auction list, enjoy an update about alumni relations at UAA and help us kick off gala season and the
nominations for the next group of distinguished alumni. If you would like to be invited to this event,
please contact Alumni Relations (786-1491 or alumnirelations@uaa.alaska.edu).

The search for a new AVC for Alumni Relations is progressing and we expect to have finalists on campus
Weds, April 24. Keep an eye out for information about open forums that will be scheduled that day and
please spread the word about the opportunity to participate in the process of selecting the best
candidate for this important new post.
Development
 Alyeska Pipeline Service Company contributed $300,000 to the Alaska Native Science Engineering
program, with $200,000 directed to ANSEP General Support and $100,000 to the Herbert P. Schroeder
Chair of ANSEP.

Northrim Bank contributed $100,000 to the ISER Economic and Fiscal Policy Model.

With almost 100 people in attendance, the second annual “Evening with the Honors College” event was
a super success. We introduced many new people to the type of high-caliber research conducted by
UAA’s undergraduate students and we raised just over $30,000 to support the mission of the University
Honors College that night. The dinner event featured 9 tables, each consisting of guests and a student or
alumni. The student or alumni at each table led conversations on topics that ranged from “An
exploration of experiences and outcomes of Alaska Native graduates of Mr. Edgecumbe High School” to
“An investigation of the privacy implication of domestic drone surveillance.” We would also like to
extend a special thank you to Ms. Diane Kaplan of the Rasmuson Foundation for supplying a matching
gift for the evening, inspiring our guests to rise to the occasion and support the research and
experimental learning that make the University Honors College so successful.

Central Bering Sea Fisherman’s Association contributed $50,000 to ANSEP General Support.

Phonathon has raised over $120,500 in pledges from over 1,280 alumni of UAA.

Employee Giving campaign started up on March 20th.
