Magnificent Model Makers: Like to build stuff? Want to be creative? Do you have two
hands? If you said "yes" to any two of the previous questions, Magnificent Model Makers, is for you!
At this activity, you will build a model kit suitable for your skill level and then paint it. Learn valuable
model building skills and techniques previously available only to master model builders like myself. I
will reveal painting, decal and cutting procedures that will produce amazing results. You buy a model
suitable to your interests and skill, and we'll work together to build a masterpiece!
Helping Younger Students: Do you enjoy helping others? Do you like working with
younger kids? Here is your chance to do that right here at school. Spend some time down in the
Junior School or Montessori working and playing with some young students who will love having you
as their big “brother” or “sister” for the afternoon!
Board Games: Board games will include Backgammon, Mancala, Cathedral, Checkers, and
Quatro, Industrial Waste, In a Pickle, Blockus, and Clue. A new game will be introduced in each
session. Students will play different opponents and different games.
Clay Pottery and Sculpture: This clay course is designed for students who want to learn to
express themselves through clay sculpture and pottery. There will be an introduction to the potter's
wheel, and hand building techniques such as slab, coil, and pinch pot to create one-of-a-kind
sculptures, containers and more. Students will develop skills appropriate to their age group.
Social and Smart: Through the use of a variety of approaches, equipment and software,
students will create an original video incorporating narratives and special effects. The final creation
will be used to educate our Middle School students about the applications and potential risks of Social
Media.
Yoga: This yoga class will introduce the sun salutation, standing and seated poses along
with body balancing. Modifications will be made to provide accessibility for all students. Connecting
the breath with postures into a sequence of movements will also be part of the class instruction.
Italian Club: Buongiorno tutti! Have you ever wanted to speak one of the most passionate,
lively, and romantic languages of the world but did not know where to being? SI!? Benvenuti to the
Italian club! It offers a beginner's introduction to Italian language, culture, and life. No previous
knowledge of Italian is needed. You will learn how to greet each other and say who you are, learn
about some of the delicious specialties of the country, and have appreciation for the many beautiful
differences in cultures in Canada. Soon, you will be ready to stop by anybody in the Middle School
and start a conversation in italiano. Andiamo!
Adventure Running: This activity is for those students who want to run, as well as
exercise when we can’t get outside. You will be introduced to interval running, rowing (on a
machine), anything to get the heart going! This is a challenging activity and not for those looking for a
leisurely walk in the park!
Self Defense: In this session, students will learn self-defense. Techniques to protect you
will be discussed and rehearsed. The initial sessions will cover basic techniques, with the later
sessions showing more advanced techniques. The sessions will be taught by an instructor who
specializes in self-defense and mixed martial arts. There will be a $10.00 charge for each student.
Scrapbooking: Are you interested in preserving memories of your youth, memories from
your family vacation, or putting together a gift for a friend or family member? Scrapbooking allows
you to take a book with blank pages and add your own photos, memorabilia, and journaling to create
a personalized book to preserve memories. You will learn basic techniques including page layout,
journaling, and organization. You will also be able to exercise your creativity as you display your
memories in a scrapbook. You will need to bring your own blank scrapbook and pictures, all other
supplies will be available for you to use. You also have the opportunity to use an online digital
scrapbooking site if you prefer to create your memories in a digital book.
Improvisational Drama: Explore the art of improvisational acting through reading, analyzing
and performing skits utilizing improvisational games and ideas. Challenge yourself – take a risk. This
is for grade 7 & 8 students only.
Irish Tin Whistle: Learn to play the Irish Tin Whistle for 3 reasons: Compact instrument,
easy to learn, and great sound. You will learn a variety of tunes including Jigs, Reels, and Seasonal
Tunes.
Animation: Do you love playing with video technology? Are you fascinated with the magic
of animation? Then come to this club to learn how to use click photography or click video footage to
create short animated stories or commercials. There are many fun and creative options for doing this
including using small figurines, objects, drawing, or modeling clay. It is fun, can be useful for other
class work, and you end up with a finished product that you can show to entertain others.
Drum Line: An introduction to the exciting world of drum line! Percussion experience is not
necessary, but is beneficial. Open only to students in Grade 8. If you are interested in being a part of
HSC’s Drum Line in the Senior School, this is the option for you!
Plyometrics: Looking to challenge yourself? This activity seeks to test your inner athlete and
become more aware of your body movement. Plyometrics will allow you to build muscle strength,
endurance, and power through explosive movements while maintaining proper form and balance.
Ultimately, you will reach new "heights" with your movements and become a better and more
confident overall athlete.
Jewellery Making: A beginner’s guide to designing and making jewelry.
Cooking: Cooking is cool at school! If you are gastronomically inclined and looking for a
fun, creative outlet, come and share the joy of cooking with us. In addition to learning age-appropriate
cooking skills, you will develop important life skills such as working as a team, applying math and
science, and developing creativity through cooking. There will be a $25.00 charge to each student.
Card Games: Learn to play various card games like cribbage, euchre, etc.
Chess: Learn to play chess in a fun and easy way. With friendly competitions, you will
try to incorporate different strategies to help you succeed at the game.
