THE DISCOVERY OF KING TUT’S TOMB The discovery of King Tut’s tomb took years to find and actually get inside the tomb to look at the mummy. Howard Carter, the person who discovered the tomb had a long time in Egypt trying to reach his goal to find it. Howard actually spent 31 years there so properly took a bit of patients to dig and scrap way the dirt so it was one of the longest finds ever. The discovery of the tomb was very exciting and important because it held good answers about King Tut’s life and how he died. Another good thing again about the discovery is the artefact’s can reveal great history about Egypt. Also one thing I can tell you that they discovered is that King Tut died by an broken infected leg because of weak bones from dna. HOWARD CARTER Howard Carter started his career at the age of 17, which seems a bit young. He was born on the 9th of May 1874 and he died on the 2nd of March 1939. The funny thing was he died and was born in Kensington London. His father was Samuel Carter and he was an artist. His mother name was Martha Joyce Carter. Howard received a lot of training of art by his farther so much in fact, he became a very talented artist. Before of course he was an archaeologist. THE DISCOVERY The tomb was found on November the 4th 1922 finally after 31 years of hard work that Howard had completed with a successful finish and a well done job. The hardest bit was that they had to note all the artefacts around the entrance and inside to the tomb. And there were a lot of artefacts to note and it probably took up all the time nearly to actually enter the building. It seems like there no problems with discovery the tomb. The actually place were the tomb was discovered was at the VALLY OF THE KINGS at THEBES. The site looks like a big mound of dirt and sand with a big entrance on one side out of it. To get to the tomb they had to excavate carefully so they did not damage the tomb or things around it and they would have used a bit of manpower to get there also. Some of the artefacts found were things like jewellery, boxes and furniture and more and the list is endless. Most of the artefacts are in museums as you would expect and they are on display for people to see. The find told us about how Tutankhamun died and the artefacts told us so much info on how they crafted things back then. There also is a lot more that we learnt from the discovery. TOP 9 FUN FACTS 1. He was king aged at 8-9,which is very young. 2. He ruled for 10 years before he was died. 3. He may have married one of his stepsisters. 4. He was only 180cm tall thanks to CAT scans. 5. He had no children with his wife. 6. He was born at Tutankhaten. 7. He did not make all the choices 2 other people made some of them for him. 8. He died of a broken infected leg from poor DNA because people in his family kept on marring each other to keep the royal blood, so no one else from the outside take over. 9. It was berried under ground because so grave robbers can’t see it and steel it and just a big temple would be an invite. CONCLUSION I think it was the best discovery because it was not above ground and it lay there untouched for 3000 years (refer to top facts for more reasons). And I learnt a lot from this assessment task from researching the task. BY HUGH MCDOUALL
