Special Rules
1. This section is open to 4-H members enrolled in these projects.
2. Exhibitors will pay an entry fee of $1.00 per dog class entered and 50 cents per other
pet classes. Entry fees are charged if not in Extension Office or postmarked by July
1.
3. Dogs and other pets will be on the grounds one half hour before show time and will
be released as evaluation and show are completed.
4. Exhibitors must abide by dress code outlined in the livestock department rules.
5. No dog in heat can be shown.
6. Dogs must be 6 months or older.
7. Dogs younger than 6 months may participate in Division 12.
8. See health regulations. Must have current Rabies shot. Parvo shots are recom
mended
DIVISION 11 – DOGS
Showmanship (Grade)
185 – Pre-Novice – 1st year handling – Juniors (4th-5th-6th)
186 – Novice Int. – 1st year handling – Intermediates (7th-8th)
187 – Novice Sr. – 1st year handling – Senior (9th and up)
Obedience
188 – Puppy Class – dogs six months to 1 year of age, on leash – sit – 1 minute, down –
3 minutes, stand for exam
189 – Pre-novice – dogs in first year of training, on leash – heel, figure 8, recall, off
leash, stand for exam, sit – 1 minute, down – 3 minutes
190 – Novice – dogs in second year of training, on leash – heel, figure 8; off leash –
heel, recall, stand for exam, sit, down
191 – Graduate Novice – dogs in third year of training, off leash – sit, down, Stand for
exam, heel and drop on recall, figure 8
192 – Open – dogs in fourth year of training, off leash – heel, figure 8, drop on recall,
retrieve on flat, retrieve over high jump, sit – 3 minutes, down – 5 minutes, handler
out of sight. All sits in obedience classes are for 3 minutes. All downs are 5
minutes, handler out of sight.

192.1 - Pre-novice on leash—10 stations—one jump
192.2 - Novice off leash unless permitted—12 stations—2 jumps
192.3—Graduate Novice—off leash—15 stations—4 jumps
193— Agility course– Three attempts to master obstacle—animal and handler work as
team - must do from sit position on starting line.

DIVISION 11.1 CATS

Special Rules
1. All cats must be owned by the exhibitor or in partnership with parent or guardian.
2. Cats may be purebred or household pets.
3. Animals will be released following completion of all judging.
4. Cats will be displayed in cages that must be covered on three sides, top and
bottom, but do not have to be entered in the Display of Cages.
5. Dress Code: White shirt or blouse with 4-H chevron, and either blue jeans,
khaki or white shorts or khaki or white pants. 4-H’er should wear toe covered
shoe or boot. (Cut-off shorts are not appropriate.)
6. Read health rules and regulations in the front of this book.
7. No pregnant or nursing females will be allowed to show.

DIVISION 12 – OTHER PETS
200 – Birds, cats, fish, gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters, mice, rats, etc. Judged on health,
cleanliness and exhibitor’s knowledge of the animal. Animals must be on a leash or in a
cage.
