Scholastic Dishonesty
The integrity of a university degree depends on the integrity of the work done for that degree by each
student. The University expects a student to maintain a high standard of individual honor in all
scholastic work (Rules and Regulations of the Board of Regents).
Scholastic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to cheating, plagiarism, collusion, and the submission
for credit of any work or materials that are attributable in whole or in part to another person, any act
designed to give unfair advantage to a student, or the attempt to commit such acts. Detailed
information on scholastic dishonesty along with disciplinary procedures is outlined in the Handbook of
Operating Procedures, Part 5, Section 1, and the Student Guide.
Disabilities
Any student who feels that he or she may require assistance for any type of physical or learning
disability should consult with me during the first week. To request academic accommodations for a
disability, contact Director of the PASS Office in the Mesa Building Room 1160, 432-552-2631. Students
are required to provide documentation of disability to the PASS Office prior to receiving
accommodations.

RESEARCH PROJECT
Students will be assigned to Student-Partner Groups to complete the Research Project assignment,
“Using Evidence from the Literature to Support or Change Current Nursing Practice”.
Each Student-Partner Group will:
1. Choose a current practice in nursing for the project; nursing practice topics must be approved by
the instructor
2. Develop a clinical question using the PICO format
3. Conduct a review of the literature
a. Minimum: 5 peer-reviewed journal articles
b. Three (3) of the peer-reviewed journal articles must be research studies
c. All peer-reviewed journal articles must have been published within the last 6 years
[2009-2014]
4. Appraise the evidence obtained from the literature review using the JHNEBP Research Evidence
Appraisal (Johns Hopkins Hospital/Johns Hopkins University) instrument; JHNEBP will be
provided by the instructor
a. Complete a JHNEBP Evidence Appraisal instrument form for each peer-reviewed journal
article used in the review of literature
5. Write a project summary indicating one of the following:
a. The current nursing practice is supported by evidence from the review of literature and
include documentation from the literature that corroborates this conclusion, or
b. The current nursing practice is not supported by evidence from the review of literature
and include documentation from the literature that substantiates this conclusion
6. The completed Research Project assignment should be submitted by one member of the
Student-Partner Group to the drop box in Blackboard labeled, “Project” by 05/02/2014 @ 1700.
7. Place one (1) copy of each article reviewed for the Research Project in a folder labeled with the
names of each member of the Student-Partner Group, and submit the folder to Dr. Johnson by
05/02/2014@ 1700.
The completed Research Project assignment should contain the following components:
1. Cover Page
2. Introduction: Include purpose of project and description of specific nursing practice (0.5
page)
3. PICO Question (0.5) page
4. Review of Literature: concise summary of each study reviewed (maximum five (5) pages)
5. Project Summary: maximum (1) page
6. List of References
7. Appendices: (minimum: five (5) completed JHNEBP Research Evidence Appraisal forms)
The Research Project assignment must follow correct APA format
 Typed pages, double-spaced
 One-inch margins
 References cited within text (summary) must also appear in the List of References
 Correct APA format should be used for citations in text and List of References
