Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. Under general oversight of the Director, the Coordinator performs, coordinates, and oversees technical and administrative duties in support of the Center for Civil Engineering Earthquake Research (CCEER) at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR). The individual (1) acts as project manager and project administrator for a multi-million dollar grant from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA); (2) acts as the primary facilitator for the George E. Brown, Jr. Network for Earthquake Engineering Research (NEES) Education, Outreach, and Training Program at UNR; (3) acts as the Principal Investigator (PI) and Contract Manager for Service-to-Industry projects with Dynamic Certification Laboratories (DCL); and (4) assists the Director in communicating with Federal and State sponsors and constituents, handles incoming issues and concerns addressed to the Director, manages a variety of special projects, and provides support to other staff. The position reports to the Director, CCEER. 2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Level of Freedom: The Coordinator operates independently in all areas with minimal supervision. The incumbent is tasked with the independent development of a testing plan for large-scale research projects, development and management of annual education, outreach and training coordination activities, and the Service-to-Industry project administration with all logistics and scheduling coordinated directly with laboratory staff. The position consults with the PI on overall project management and activities coordination to achieve the long-term mission of the department. Impact: Successful management of the FHWA research projects elevates the profile of the testing facility, which contributes directly to the university’s mission of competing in a global environment. Poor performance in this area would delay subsequent research and be detrimental to the reputation and testing services offered by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Successful management of education, outreach and training coordination and the Service-to-Industry project results in grant dollars to the College and University. These activities reach several thousand people per year so are highly visible to the public and also addresses the University mission of improving economic and social development by engaging Nevada’s citizens and communities. 4.
