8th Grade Lynx Volleyball August 2015 8th Grade Volleyball Players and Parents: We are looking forward to a very successful 2015 season! In order to assure success certain expectations will need to be followed. All players must have a physical turned in before they may practice. All paperwork is due Friday, September 4, 2015. Upon becoming a member of the 8th grade Lynx Volleyball Team, each player is expected to accept certain responsibilities that are a part of the participation in the volleyball program. Following are some expectations that have been set up for participation on the 2015 8th grade volleyball team. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Players are representing not only themselves, but also their team, school, and community. Clothing both on and off the court should be a positive reflection of BVMS and the Lynx volleyball team. Players will give their best effort at all times on the volleyball court and in the classroom. Players with missing assignments will be expected to complete assignments before they will be allowed to practice. This will then result in diminished playing time at matches. Players will stay positive and will work to be a dependable and encouraging player and teammate. Players will take constructive criticism as an opportunity to improve their skills. Players will display a high level of intensity and enthusiasm at all times on the volleyball court. The BV middle school program will teach the basic fundamentals of volleyball and prepare players for competitive high school teams. The 8th grade volleyball players will be evaluated on passing, setting, serving, hitting, ability to perform and react in game situations, attitude, and degree of effort. All players will get an opportunity to play, but playing time is not equal and will vary depending on level of team and skill of the player. The 8th grade players will be divided into four skill-leveled teams. The A team will be the most competitive team that will run specialized offenses and defenses. The B team will also be a competitive team that will specialize positions but at a little slower pace than the A team. The C team is a developing competitive team. The D team is a recreational team that will develop the fundamental skills of volleyball. Depending on the number of players the C and D teams may not practice everyday and a practice schedule will be given to these players. Players may move between teams throughout the season at coach discretion. Please notify us if your player will need to miss a practice or match for any reason. If players have an unexcused absence from practice or a match they will not be allowed to participate in the next match. A second unexcused absence will result in dismissal from the team. Examples of excused absences are illness, family trips, Dr. Appointments, etc. The use of cell phones will not be allowed at practice, games, or on the bus to and from matches. Students may use cell phones to call a parent for a ride home when given permission by a coach. Violation of this rule will result in confiscation of phone and the phone will then be returned to parents only. By everyone being aware of these expectations, we feel we can look forward to a rewarding and successful season. Yours in Volleyball, Roxie Geerdes Coty McGuire Please sign and return showing that you have read and accept these expectations. 8th Grade Volleyball Player____________________ 8th Grade Volleyball Parent____________________
