assistant professor position
Tenure-track - Beginning August 2014
Department classrooms and laboratories are state-of-the-art and are located on the
University’s beautiful academic campus in historic Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, a short drive
from Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington and New York. Millersville enrolls approximately
9,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
Description: Primary teaching responsibilities will be for undergraduate and graduate laboratory-based
courses in CADD. Course content includes technical, engineering, and architectural drafting and design.
Courses are taught primarily to a combination of applied engineering and technologyeducation majors.
Develop and implement contemporary classroom and hands-ontechnical laboratory activities for assigned
courses and update courses on an ongoing basis. Effectively prepare course syllabi, develop lesson
plans, and engage in the selection of textbooks and instructional technology related to assigned courses.
Foster student learning and development in a safe and healthy environment. May be required to teach
day, weekend and evening courses. May be required to teach classes through multi-faceted teaching
strategies for didactic or face-to-face classroom delivery, laboratory and/or web-based format. Effectively
organize, maintain, and manage laboratory facilities, including software upgrades and rapid prototyping
technologies.
Serve as academic advisor to undergraduate students. Hold a minimum of five office hours per week on
no fewer than three days for student advisement. Be available for consultations regarding questions
related to your area of expertise. Pursue opportunities such as conferences, workshops, and postgraduate courses that contribute to continuous scholarly growth related to the position. Maintain a
scholarly focus and seek grants, conduct research, deliver presentations, and publish manuscripts in
professional journals related to this focus. Contribute to the governance and outreach of the department,
school, and university through service on committees, task forces, and special assignments. Develop
connections and provide support tobusinesses, schools, and government agencies in areas of expertise.
Participate in relevant professional associations and support student organizations
Required: Master’s degree in engineering technology, applied engineering, industrial technology,
technology education, industrial design, architecture, engineering education, technology management, or
a related discipline. Earned baccalaureate or graduate degree in engineering technology, applied
engineering, industrial technology, technology education, industrial design, architecture, or a related
discipline. Primary skills in CADD, drafting, freehand sketching, and design. Expertise with CADD
software (e.g., AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit, SolidWorks, SketchUp) and rapid prototypingtechnologies.
Hand-drafting skills and technical freehand drawing ability are necessary. Ability to conduct and supervise
scholarly activities. Proficiency in the application of information technology relevant to the teaching and
learning process. Evidence of commitment to: serve diverse populations; promote a safe and healthy
learning and research environment; the involvement in and support of student organizations. Verifiable
ability to work cooperatively with colleagues. Completion of a successful interview and teaching
demonstration. A minimum of 15 credits beyond the Master’s degree in an approved graduate degree
program will be required for tenure.
Preferred: Completed doctorate or progress toward doctorate in engineering technology, applied
engineering, technology education, industrial design, architecture, or a related discipline. Expertise with
residential design and architecture. Expertise in sustainable design. Expertise in descriptive geometry,
illustration, and rendering. Post-secondary teaching experience. Three years of professional and/or
industrial experience. Documented effectiveness in teaching or training. Experience writing grant
proposals, advising students and conducting and supervising research and other scholarly activities.
