JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Assistant Director of Student Activities for Wellness REPORTS TO: Director of Student Activities PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Assistant Director of Student Activities for Wellness provides leadership and performs highly responsible job duties in the preparation, maintenance and administration of the College’s student wellness program while acting as the main resource for alcohol and other drug education and student support. The Assistant Director also advises student organizations and staffs late night programming. AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: Provide leadership for a comprehensive College Student Wellness Program, including selecting, training and overseeing the Student Wellness Peer Educators program. Supervise and assign role tasks for Student Wellness Peer Educators program. Serve as primary AOD resource to the Counseling Center, Residence Life, Dean of Students Office and Student Health Services in developing policies, carrying out programs, and providing services to students. Design, Implement and coordinate the BASICS (Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students) program for St. Olaf in collaboration with other campus professionals. Ensure the implementation of educational/in-service programs for the community on topics pertaining to AOD and Mental Health issues. Ensure the implementation of the biennial review of AOD programs for the Department of Education. Represent the college on local committees that promote health and wellness. Advise the After Dark Committee of Student Government and consult with other student organizations. Staff late night and weekend programs of student activities (e.g., dances and concerts). Assist with management of event contracts. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise peer educators and student organization leaders CONTACTS: Student leaders, Counselors, Residence Life, Dean of Students and Student Health Services, as well as faculty and external health services EDUCATION: EXPERIENCE: Essential: Bachelor’s Degree in appropriate discipline. Desirable: Master’s Degree in appropriate discipline. Essential: 3-5 years of experience working with adolescents or college population programming, advising and counseling in an educational environment. Familiarity with AOD issues in higher education. Training and experience with individual counseling, budget management. Desirable: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: Ability to work with diverse populations Sensitivity and orientation to be successful in a church-related, liberal arts setting Possess the poise, confidence, willingness and ability to work with student leaders to respond to the expectations as well as concerns of the entire St. Olaf community by planning and marketing programs that will engage interest in a manner that respects public standards. Ability to respond to concerns from the broader community Experience with or willingness to learn and utilize brief motivational interviewing techniques. (BASICS) Ability to prepare and deliver educational programs and produce appropriate educational materials. Excellent collaborative skills and ability to lead and follow in professional and student-led teams.
