Christian Education Reverend Eunice Smith, B.S., M.S., M.Div. a Baltimore, MD native hails from a family of spiritual leaders. Reverends: Henry L. Young, Cosmo Young, and William Amos Young, all pastored churches in Essex County, Virginia. Her understanding of the ministry began when she visited her relatives in Virginia and attended church to hear her uncle, Rev. William Young preach and she has since followed in his footsteps, not only in profession, but also in spirit. Additionally, she was nurtured in a single parent household. Her mother, the late Phoencie YoungSmith, ensured that she was acquainted with the teachings of Christ and the church during her childhood. Reverend Smith became a member of the Union Baptist Church during her early childhood, attending Sunday school, the Junior Church and Vacation Bible School. As an adult she served on the Women’s usher board and the Deaconess Board. A graduate of the Baltimore City Public School System, she continued her education at the Morgan State College (University) and the University Of Maryland School Of Dentistry where she has earned the Bachelor of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene. She has earned the Masters of Science Degree in Dental Public Health from Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry (Goldman School of Dental Medicine). Reverend Smith has always had a love for the Word of God. After completing her academic studies, she “felt as if something was missing, that I was in a spiritual wilderness.” After a period of prayer and meditation, she studied at the Baltimore School of the Bible, from which she received certification. She continued to study through the United Baptist Missionary Convention and Auxiliaries of Maryland, Inc., and at St. Mary’s Seminary and University, and at the Washington Bible College, and Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington, D.C. Before being licensed or ordained, Reverend Smith was the Women’s Day guest preacher at the Ezion United Methodist Church in Queen Anne County, Maryland in May 1994 and the Women’s Day guest Preacher at the Douglas Memorial Community Church, Baltimore in May 2000. In May 2006, Reverend Smith earned the Master of Divinity Degree from Howard University School of Divinity. In January 2008, she received the certificate of license to preach the Gospel in the faith community by the Rev. Dr. Alvin C. Hathaway, Sr. Pastor of the Union Baptist Church, Baltimore. Then in November, 2009, she was ordained by her father in ministry, the late Reverend Vernon Dobson at St. Mark’s Institutional Baptist Church, under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Dr. Reginald Lawrence and currently holds the position of Assistant Pastor for Christian Education. Reverend Smith is the mother of one adult son. She is employed by the Federal Government as a registered dental hygienist at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Reverend Smith says her greatest desire is to minister the Word of God accurately and effectively to the body of Christ. She has a desire to serve and believes in servant leadership. “To serve the present age, My calling to fulfill, O may it all my powers engage To do my Master’s Will.”
