Welsh Springer Spaniel Club Championship Show Saturday 5th September Bitches It was honour and privilege to judge Bitches at the WSSC Championship Show on Saturday 5th September. I had a lovely quality entry and was very pleased with my class winners and CC, RCC winners. Veteran (4, 1 abs) 1 Michie’s Tobermyn Dawn Chorus, 8½ year old in top condition, balanced outline, good head with soft expression, nice reach of neck into good shoulder placement and front, nice spring of rib with good angles, nice feet, moved well, just flowed round the ring. 2 Caffrey & Dodds Sh Ch Gellyburn Damselfly JW ShCM, just lacking the sparkle of 1 today, pleasing head with melting expression, nice reach of neck & correct lay of shoulders, nice feet, good rear angles, moved well for her 9 years. 3 Dixon’s Menstonia Fair Chance, wellconstructed, nice outline, balanced head, a shade too long for me, didn’t move as well as 1 & 2. Minor Puppy (8, 0 abs) 1 Burchmore & Hagger’s Bowdonia Bedazzled, this youngster took my eye as soon as she came in the ring & standing four square looking up at her handler, 8 months in super coat & condition, balanced head with soft expression and dark eye, good angles front & rear, correct topline, moved well and happily round the ring. 2 Attwood’s Kylowen Demelza, another promising youngster, balanced head with soft expression, not too long in muzzle, good and strong like welsh should be, nice reach of neck which gives a balanced outline, correct angles front & rear, nice feet, moved a bit silly to start with but once settled was ok. 3 Dobbie’s Rockypoint Princess, pleasing head with nice soft expression, clean neck into good lay of shoulder & front, nice feet, looked a little long but when matures will look more balanced, didn’t move as good as 1 & 2. Puppy (9, 1 abs) 1 Burchmore & Hagger’s Bowdonia Bedazzled. 2 Connolly’s Ambika Tranquil Spirit for Benmorbry, pleasing youngster, balanced outline for her age, good head in proportion to its body, soft expression, nice reach of neck, correct lay of shoulder, good front, nice feet, correct angulation at rear which showed on the move. Close decision between 1 & 2. 3 Perkins Taimere’s Tickles My Fancy of Brent, a bit longer cast for me but all the qualities of 1 & 2, moved well round the ring, needs time to come into her own. Junior (3, 0 abs) 1 Graham’s Nyliram Miss Joules JW, balanced head with soft expression & strong muzzle, not coarse in any way which is what welsh is to me, clean neck with good reach, correct angles front & rear, deep body for age, moved well round the ring. 2 Perkins Taimere’s Tickles My Fancy of Brent, 3 Naunton’s Enfys Amber, well balanced bitch in hard condition, all the qualities of 1 & 2 but need a bit more weight to finish her off, moved well. Novice (9, 0 abs) 1 Harrison’s Glenbrows Paper Heart, balanced outline, good angles front & rear, in good coat & condition, moved well but a bit wide for me. 2 Perkins Taimere’s Tickles My Fancy of Brent. 3 Ridge’s Stagarth Now I’m Here at Saanu, smaller in size but well balanced, pleasing head with soft expression, in good coat & condition, moved well. Graduate (3, 0 abs) 1 Ridge’s Stagarth Now I’m Here at Saanu. 2 Place’s Tammano Cadell at Aarminias, clean balanced outline, soft expression with dark eye which makes for a pleasing head, nice reach of neck, good angles front & rear, in good coat & condition, nice feet, her movement lost her the first place. 3 Mole’s Tammano Crawhall, longer cast than 1 & 2, soft expression, muscle tone not as good as 1 & 2 & movement a bit eratic. Open (9, 0 abs) 1 Leary’s Menstonia Minty of Haslemount JW, admired this one from the ringside and was not disappointed going over her, she has matured well & looked a picture, pleasing head with soft expression, good clean neck, correct angles front & rear, good depth of body, nice feet, in super coat & condition, trimmed to show off her qualities, moved effortless round the ring and at one with her handler, very pleased to award her the CC today. 2 Ritchie’s Slapestones Smooth JW (AI) quality bitch from this kennel, typical welsh head with nice soft expression, clean neck with correct shoulders & front, good depth of body, nice feet, correct rise over loin & tail set which showed on the move, moved with drive, very close to top honours. 3 Morgan & Schofield’s Sh Ch Ferndel Butterkist Cwsscwn JW, another one I have liked from a youngster, all the qualities of 1 & 2 but today she wasn’t on form & enjoying herself as I have seen her before.
