Flat Stanley Letter - Midkiff Elementary School

Dear Parents,
Our two most recent stories from our reading books, Me on the Map and At
Home around the World, have focused on geography, which also correlates
with our Social Studies unit. During our read aloud time, we have been
reading a chapter book, Flat Stanley. The story is about a little boy named
Stanley who had a bulletin board fall on him and smashed him flat. He was
not injured, he was just flattened and he could easily be sent in the mail to
many places. His travels were exciting and educational as he learns about
many different places.
Your child is bringing home a Flat Stanley project packet today. The
purpose is to learn more about an exciting local travel experience with Flat
Stanley. This gives students another meaningful reason to write and keep in
touch with their peers.
First, your child should color and decorate Flat Stanley. Then, please assist
your child fill out the questionnaire. Finally, have your child write and
illustrate a description of his/her personal experience with Flat Stanley in
the journal. Your child can keep the book, Flat Stanley Goes Camping, as a
souvenir. When the project is through, I will send it home to enjoy with
your family.
We are anxious to see and learn about all the different places Flat Stanley
will visit! As we receive projects back to school, we will discuss and plot the
different locations that Flat Stanley has been in our community map.
Our class is very excited about this project. Have fun with it! If you have
any questions, please feel free to contact me at (956)323-7000. I want to
thank you in advance for your time and cooperation with this wonderful
learning experience.
Sincerely,
Mrs. S. González
