Resource Person to: Department heads, Administrative Staff, Volunteers
This position is Full-time with benefits
Hours hired to work: 40 hours per week, 12 months
Typical Core Hours: Monday – Friday 7:30 am – 4:00 pm and early morning, evening, and weekend hours as needed

Purpose of Position: To support the Rector in providing supervision of all cleaning, maintenance and operations of the Cathedral facilities in accordance with Cathedral mission statement, philosophy, handbooks and the direction established by the
Rector. Perform communication tasks and other duties as assigned.

General Responsibilities:
Employment in and by the Church is substantially different from secular employment.

Representative Responsibilities:
To be present where needed and ready to work to meet responsibilities, and on time for all scheduled hours. Includes recognizing when situations require more effort, to put in more time if needed, satisfying responsibilities in a timely manner, providing an example of punctuality and attendance, and generally ensuing all is well and taken care of.

Oversee all physical aspects of the Cathedral campus to provide a safe, secure, clean, orderly, and visually appealing environment.
Oversee all maintenance and upkeep, and repair projects of the Cathedral campus, including boilers and all mechanical equipment. Keep current with licensure required for all mechanical equipment.
Coordinate all required inspections (e.g, fire inspector, boiler inspector, Catholic Mutual, etc.)
Supervision of Maintenance Staff
Responsible for overseeing all maintenance department staff to ensure that the Cathedral is being properly cleaned, maintained and secured at the end of each day.
Prepare a weekly work schedule for all staff in the maintenance department.
Provide day to day direction to maintenance staff.
Involved in hiring recommendations and compensation decisions.
Conduct annual performance reviews for all maintenance staff.
Supervise maintenance staff utilizing Justice in Employment guidelines.
Provide back up support for all maintenance staff.
HVAC Equipment
Responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair and cleaning of:
Boilers, vacuum pumps, fan motors, condensate pumps, steam traps, and all equipment relating to the heating of the Cathedral and Rectory offices.
All window air conditioning units in the above named buildings including cleaning all coils and filters.
General Repairs
Responsible for all plumbing repairs in the Cathedral buildings.
Responsible for all electrical repairs in the Cathedral buildings.
Responsible for all Pneumatic control repairs in the Cathedral buildings.
All repairs that are beyond the expertise of maintenance personnel that require outside contractor must have prior approval from Rector.
Responsible for all repairs of general Cathedral equipment; i.e. desks, chairs, vacuum, etc.
Use and Upkeep of Cathedral Buildings
Responsible for general locking and security of the Cathedral buildings.
Responsible for set up and take down of all funerals, meetings and Cathedral events.
Oversee work order process so repairs are completed in a timely manner.
Replacement of interior and exterior light bulbs in all Cathedral buildings when necessary.
Visual inspection of all Cathedral buildings and roofs on a regular basis.
Visual inspection of all Cathedral exterior building drains on a regular basis.
Cathedral Building
Ensure locking and unlocking of the Cathedral.
Ensure daily cleaning of the Cathedral and the Gallery to include sweeping and use of the floor scrubbing machines on the floors, thorough cleaning of all the bathrooms, hallways, entrances sacristy and Sanctuary.
Ensure minor asbestos repair and removal is repaired as needed after successful completion of MacNeil Environmental Course.
Ensure stock of toilet paper, paper towels, and soap in all bathrooms is maintained.
Ensure all trash is removed from meeting rooms, bathrooms, kitchen areas and receptacles are cleaned out as necessary.
Ensure pipes, window ledges, and radiators are dusted.
Rectory Offices
Ensure daily cleaning and disinfecting all bathrooms.
Ensure all carpeted areas are vacuumed, all surface areas are dusted, ensure all waste
baskets in rectory office are emptied.
Ensure all kitchen areas are cleaned.
Ensure all entrances, entrance mats, common areas, stairwells are swept, mopped and vacuumed
Ensure detailed cleaning of windows, bathrooms, walls, window sills, window glass, doorknobs and carpets as needed.
Cathedral
Ensure auto scrubbing of the Cathedral floors; sweeping and mopping between the pews and sacristy three times per week.
Ensure all Cathedral entrances are swept and auto scrubbed and entrance rugs vacuumed. .
Ensure elevator is cleaned and vacuumed.
Ensure all Cathedral meeting rooms and kitchens are cleaned and all trash is emptied.
Grounds
Ensure snow removal of all entrances and sidewalks, sand and salt should be applied as needed.
Ensure cleaning and sweeping of outside entrances as needed.
Ensure lawn is cut and fertilizers applied. Ensure grass clipping are swept up from sidewalk.
Ensure debris is picked up on the Cathedral grounds and parking lots.
Ensure the watering of the grass, shrubs, flowers and weed control.
Miscellaneous
Provide the Rector / designated administrator with information on cleaning and restroom supplies for the Cathedral and Rectory offices.
Provide the Rector/ designate administrator information on needed building supplies.
Provide the Rector / designated Administrator information on needed kitchen paper products necessary for Cathedral parish functions.
Provide the Rector / designated administrator information on necessary supplies for the normal operations of the Cathedral buildings.
Ensure all storage rooms are neat and organized.
Ensure all boiler rooms are organized and free of clutter.
Maintain and improve knowledge of boiler operations, facilities maintenance and insurance requirements.
Cathedral Mass Duties
Ensure appropriate general setup for daily Mass and Morning Prayer as needed.
Ensure that appropriate procedures are used when lighting and extinguishing candles.
Ensure proper support of volunteers for Christmas & Easter Cathedral cleaning.
Ensure all candles are replaced in the candle racks and the Altar.
Special Projects
Ensure proper stripping, waxing and buffing of Cathedral floors, sacristy, narthex, entrances, meeting rooms and rectory office meeting rooms.
Ensure carpet cleaning of rectory offices, and Cathedral entrance mats.
Ensure detailed cleaning of all horizontal ledges, windows, radiators, and vents.
Work with Rector /designated administrator and volunteers on the outdoor Creche setup.
Ensure proper support of volunteers during the fall & spring grounds clean up.
Ensure proper cooperation and completion of all projects as deemed necessary by the
Rector or designated administrator.
Other Responsibilities: Includes additional tasks identified (as needed) by the incumbent employee and/or assigned and approved by the supervisor.

Qualifications:
Minimum 1 st class C boilers license required.
Minimum of five plus years of facilities maintenance and cleaning experience required.
Minimum of five plus years of supervisor experience required.
HVAC experience required.
Must have a valid driver’s license and car for use during scheduled hours.
Understanding of Catholic Faith, rituals, calendar, practices, preferred.
Possess knowledge of Catholic faith and exhibit respect for the Cathedral of Saint Paul.
Successfully complete the 2 day course by MacNeil Environmental (16 hours) to be qualified to work on minor asbestos repairs and removal.
Successfully complete the required background checks and VIRTUS training.
Successfully complete the pre-employment physical .

Physical Demands:
Climb many flights of steps and maneuver through crawlspaces to access remote parts of the Cathedral including walking the rooftop for inspections.
Lift and move heavy objects using proper techniques, up to 50 lbs.
Must be flexible with work schedule and work for longer periods of time when position demands
.
Move quickly between Cathedral buildings.
Dry and damp mop miscellaneous rooms throughout facility.
Clean the boilers at the end of heating season and start up and shut down boilers.
Perform room set-ups of tables and chairs, etc.
Start up and shut down window A/C equipment in the Cathedral and the rectory offices.
Work off a ladder and climb ladders to the attic.
Operate normal building, grounds and maintenance equipment.
Operate the boiler.
Respond to emergency situations on a 24 hour basis.
