Organ and Tissue Donation Campus Campaign 2015 Part 1:
We have studied many body systems throughout this school year and now it is time to tie them all
together and bring about awareness within our school community.
Our challenge is to create an organ donation awareness campaign that addresses myths and
misconceptions surrounding organ donation and will reach members of the student body, the
faculty and extended members of the SCH community. We will complete this using the following
steps:
1. Create a display case detailing types of organ donation, facts and statistics.
2. Raise awareness through a school wide campaign to sign up to become an organ donor.
3.
Let’s start with #1! In this activity you will work on one of the following topics:
1. Liver 2. Heart 3. Kidney 4. Intestine 5. Lung 6. Pancreas 7. Cornea 8. Bone/Tendons 9.
Heart Valves 10. Veins/Arteries 11. Skin 12. Blood/Marrow
Use the websites below to research your topic. You should create a list of stats/facts about your
topic as well as gather pictures and personal stories. Your display case assignment should
include:
1. Background/facts/stats/explain why organ donation is important (large enough to read in
the display case). Touch on a few myths/misconceptions.
2. 1-2 personal stories that reflect your topic/organ (famous people, celebrities)
3. Works cited
4. Your name!
5. 5-6 LARGE color photos/posters
6. A 3-D object/artifact
7. Must be set up in the display case by Thursday May 21st, 2014 (can be set up during class
time)
8. You must also create pamphlet/poster/information card to accompany your research that
can be handed out to the public. (Part II of the project—see below).
9. Your display case set up is worth a total of 50 points. Make sure that you pay attention to
details!

Part II: Organ Donation Information Card/Brochure
Now that you have completed your display case set up it’s time to focus on how you
will effectively spread awareness to your peers about organ donation. We will be
using the design thinking process to generate interview questions to help us target
a specific audience (school community).
After your interviews, you will create an information card/brochure that will be
handed out to students and community members to help encourage people to
become organ donors. Include the following information:
1. General information about organ donation (quick facts)
2. Specific information about the organ that you researched (perhaps include a
famous person or a quick personal story/photo)
3. Include the url for someone to sign up to become an organ donor and the
qualifications:

4. 5-6 color photos/graphs/diagrams
5. Remember, this is a quick fact sheet (no long paragraphs!). Make it eye
catching, interesting and informative. We will be handing these out to the
student body!!!
6. You may also elect to design a tumblr, facebook page, twitter, etc instead of a
pamphlet/poster.
Ideas for Research:
1. Interview Parents/adults about their position on organ donation
2. Take photos of teachers/students holding up their organ donor designations
3. “We know there is a cure, it’s just a matter of getting more people to say yes.
Become and organ donor today!”, Philadelphia county has the lowest
designation (30%) of all counties in PA. Average is 45%
4. Myths and Misconceptions of organ donation
