Letter for Group “a”
Dear Superstars and Superstar Parents,
OUR WEEKLY
Instructions!
This week we start our Weekly Spelling Lists. Each week your child’s weekly word list will be
taped to inside of the Spelling
Journal. The spelling words for the week will be
“a MIX” of our Project Read Phonics Program Words, weekly science/social studies theme
words, sight words, and math vocabulary words. There will be some challenging “bonus” words,
too.
The weekly Spelling WRITTEN Homework Choice List is taped inside your child’s
spelling journal. Your child can choose a different writing activity each night. Plus
Monday through Friday:
Oral/Verbal or “out loud” practice:
Each night, you and your child MUST practice the spelling words; out loud at least 3x using the finger spell and
blend method or tap and sweep for red words. Your child should know how to do this; we do it in class every day.
Example:
Say the word, using your fingers, one at a time, to take the word out a finger/letter a time,
Next, using your fingers, sound the word out a finger/letter at a time. BLEND it together
and then Say the word again
This will help reinforce the spelling, letter recognition and the sound, which helps with decoding
during reading.
The Spelling Journal MUST be brought to school each day with the completed homework
activity from the previous night.
On Fridays, we will have our weekly Spelling Tests.
If you have any questions, or feel I need to modify your child’s words or homework activities,
please do not hesitate to let me know either by email, phone or a quick note.

Dear Superstars and Superstar Parents,
OUR WEEKLY
Instructions!
This week we start our Weekly Spelling Lists. Each week your child’s weekly word list will be taped to the inside
of the Spelling
Journal. The spelling words for the week will be “A MIX” of our Project Read
Phonics Program Words; some science/social studies theme words, sight word vocabulary, and math vocabulary
words. There will also be some challenging “bonus” words and SUPER BONUS Words, too!
The spelling lists in Room 2 are differentiated according to current skill level. Your child’s list represents more
challenging words, which meets his/her current skill level.
With this in mind, your child is responsible for knowing how to spell the words from all of the lists.
The words from the other lists are much easier and it should not be a problem to practice the words orally each
night, along with his/her own words. Please note your child only needs to do the WRITTEN HOMEWORK for
his/her list. This list will be marked, as LIST ‘__’, so you both will clearly know which list(s) are for out loud review
and which one is the one for new learning and doing the written homework.
The Weekly Spelling WRITTEN Homework Choice List is taped inside your child’s spelling journal. Your child can
choose a different written activity each night. Plus,
Monday through Friday: Oral/Verbal or “out loud” practice
