You live at number 71, Abbey Street with your Mum and two older brothers, Frank and John. Your Dad is in the Merchant Navy and John has just joined the Royal Air Force (the RAF). You often worry about them. Your Mum is a nurse at Hull Royal Infirmary. You have three cousins: Evelyn, Colin and Pamela. Their house was bombed in an air raid, but luckily, they were not hurt. They went to live with your Gran and Granddad. You often play with Evelyn, but Colin and his friend Mick keep spoiling your games. Costume: A cotton dress with a full skirt, white ankle socks and sandals Props: A teddy with a bandaged leg Arthur Holdstock (Dad)* You are 42 years old. You used to work at Reckitt and Sons, but as soon as the war broke out, you joined the army and now you are fighting in Egypt. It is boiling hot and very dangerous, but you are determined to protect your family and your country. You are married to Elsie and you have three children: Pamela, Colin and Evelyn. You are proud of Pamela because she has joined the A.T.S (the women’s branch of the army) and is helping the war effort. Costume: Army uniform (any smart jacket will do, with a shirt buttoned up to the neck) Props: An empty picture frame big enough to frame your face (make a frame out of cardboard) Frank Fletcher*** Fire Watcher at Rank’s Flour Mill You are 15 years old. You have a younger sister called Marcia and an older brother called John, who is in the Royal Air Force (the RAF.) Your Dad is in the Merchant Navy and your Mum is a nurse at Hull Royal Infirmary. You can’t wait to be 16 so you can join up and fight in the war against Hitler. For now, you are a fire-watcher for East Hull. You keep watch on top of Rank’s Flour Mill and call the fire brigade if any incendiary bombs drop and cause a fire. Costume: Trousers with a shirt tucked in and a sleeveless jumper if you have one. Dark shoes. Props: A gas mask box Ziggy Mackowski** Bombardier in the RAF You are 26 years old and you come from Poland. You had to escape when the Nazis conquered your country at the start of the war. There are still members of your family trapped inside Poland, so you have joined the British Royal Air Force (the RAF) so you can fight to free them. You are a bombardier (making sure bombs hit their target) and your best friend is the bomber pilot, John Fletcher. He has invited you to Hull to stay with his family because you cannot go home to Poland. Costume: Army uniform (any smart jacket will do, with a white shirt and a tie)
