In an article published this week in the Journal of Affective Disorders, the Oxford team, working with colleagues in Bangor, have shown that 48 per cent of adults suffering from recurrent depression experienced their first serious episode of depression before the age of 18 years, and that the most common age of this first episode was 13-15 years. This event sets in motion the fundraising network of supporters in London. Vanda Scott CBE has joined us to lead our fundraising activities in the UK and internationally. We're all very excited about the prospects, even in these times of economic austerity. We have a very exciting appeal and the University Development Office has now made our appeal a priority for their "Oxford Thinking" Campaign. This programme is now fully booked. Our public MBCT classes are proving very popular and we've now scheduled extra classes to satisfy demand this year. Last term's course went very well, and over 80 students have applied to do courses in the next two terms. These courses, which are based on the book, Mindfulness: a Practical Guide to finding Peace in a Frantic World, will be held at Lady Margaret Hall and will be taught in the coming term by Chris Cullen.
