To this end, the five language skills—speaking, listening, reading, writing, and culture—will be reinforced and enhanced, with the ultimate goal being communication in the target language. Essential activities for this course include about health, sports, medical conditions, sports, physical fitness, travel arrangements on France and the Francophone world. Course Management Class participation Interviews Homework, quizzes Chapter tests Final Exam 15% 10% 15 % 40% 20% A = 90+ B = 80-89 C = 70-79 D = 60-69 F = -60 Students are encouraged to study and work together on daily assignments; however, assistance may not be given or received for laboratory, workbook, or other assignments which are to be turned in for a grade. The composition portion of the Student Activities Manual, if assigned, is due on the day we begin the Passage section in class. Other activities from the SAM are due on the day of the chapter test. These activities are excellent opportunities for you to assess you progress in the course, since the four basic skills are incorporated into the exercises. The course will be conducted in French. Students are expected to comply with the instructor in maintaining the class in the target language. Assigned tests take precedence over ALL other duties or activities. Absences will be reported officially as unexcused. If one must be absent from class, one should contact the instructor, preferably prior to the absence, in order to get assignments and to make up the work missed. Absences in excess of 8 (excused or unexcused) may result in a final grade of F. Each student is expected to prepare for each class to the best of his/her ability. Lack of preparation is inexcusable and may result in an unexcused absence being recorded. Practice with audio tapes and other multimedia material is required. Regular practice (about thirty minutes per week) will greatly assist in mastery of structures, vocabulary, and will steadily improve one’s comprehension of spoken French. The final exam is comprehensive and is obligatory. It will be given only on April 29 at 0800 hours. Your success in this course is largely dependent upon the time and effort that you devote to it!
