Korean Government Scholarship Program 1) Purpose To provide international students with the opportunity to conduct advanced studies of undergraduate &graduate programs at higher educational institutions in the Republic of Korea in order to promote international exchange in education mutual friendship between countries 2) Available fields universities Undergraduate course: 4-year courses at designated universities ※ University transferring is not allowed. (Undergraduate) - Should be under 40 years of age as of the date of entrance. (Graduate) - Have finished or be scheduled to finish formal education of elementary, middle, high school courses as of the date of arrival. (Undergraduate) - Hold a Bachelor degree,a Master's degree as of the date of arrival. (Graduate) ※ Person who have enrolled in or graduated from a Korean university can not apply. - Possess a grade point average (G.P.A.) above 80% from the last educational institution attended have earned top 20% of G.P.A. among classmates. (Common) 7) Procedure for the Scholarship Award NIIED requests the Korean Embassy in the invited country or the domestic university concerned to recommend Candidates. Applicants should submit all documents related to their scholarship application to the Korean Embassy in their country of residence to or the domestic university concerned. The Korean Embassy or the domestic university concerned sends proper candidates to NIIED with required documents. NIIED evaluates proper candidates and notifies the Korean Embassy of the final KGSP 2. Korean Government Support Program for Foreign Exhange Students 1) Purpose To induce the influx of potential foreign students by subsidizing selected foreign exchange students who are currently studying in Korea based on MOUs between universities Support period : 6 months (one term) or 12 months (two terms) Support size : About 500 foreign students 2) Scope of support Section Details Living Expenses 800,000 won month per Reserve Fund Roundtrip Airfares 200,000 won per 1,700,000 year average won Medical Insurance in 15,000 won ※ 6 months: About 6,800,000 won per year, per student (average) ※ 12 months: About 12,000,000 won per year, per student (average) Application procedure This program is administered by individual universities, which will set their own deadlines put up related notices. Applicants must personally apply to the university of their choice. (We do not receive individual applications.) 3) Selection criteria - Entrusted to each university as a matter of the universities' autonomy in selecting students To be selected, students should have an excellent school record. Their study plans are also evaluated. - Universities aim to select a balanced number of students from different countries in order to avoid concentration on a particular nation. While students from developing countries are given priority in selection, students from developed countries are also encouraged to apply. 4) Selection process - The National Institute for International Education selects universities eligible to participate in the government support program for foreign exchange students, notifies each university of their assigned number of students. - Each university selects students conforming to its selection criteria from among the applicants to its exchange student program. - Universities notify NIIED of the foreign exchange students that have been selected for the government support program. 3. Support Progrram for Self-finanaced Students 1) Purpose To raise awareness on the benefits of studying in Korea to motivate financially self-supporting foreign students by subsidizing outsting ones Support period : 1 year (MAXIMUM) Support size : 200 foreign students 2) Scope of support - Living expenses: 500,000 won per month - Study/Career counseling service 3) Application procedure Applicants must personally apply to the university of their choice. Short-term training for Undergraduate Students from Major Countries 1) Purpose To invite excellent foreign students who have potential to become leaders in their home countries, to deepen their understing of Korea provide motivation for future study pursuits in Korea, through education cultural experience programs Subjects of invitation : 120 university students from Asia, Africa Latin America 2) Training period : 11 days 3) Details of training : Special lectures, visit to universities, cultural historical sites industrial facilities, home stay, etc. 4) Recommended by : The Korean Embassy in the student''s home country Processed by : Commissioned education agency 5) Payment of expenses : The government of Korea will pay all expenses, including round-trip airfare, set-up expenses training expenses
