PRINCIPAL AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE Reporting to the Chair of the Dundee and Angus College Board, the Principal is the most senior member of the College’s Executive Management Team, with the other members of the Executive Team (Depute Principal and Assistant Principals) reporting to them. Overall Purpose: To lead a vibrant, dynamic and confident College that inspires success in its students and staff, delivers outstanding performance, and is highly regarded and sought after by partners, employers and the wider community. To provide inspiring leadership and achieve the ambitions set out by the College Board, while embedding the College’s values of success, innovation, trust, respect and inspiration. To deliver the College’s mission to generate regional economic growth and social well-being through the provision of skills and education for individuals, employers and the wider community. Governance and Management To be the College's Chief Accountable Officer, ensuring that all funding received is used appropriately and that College resources are used effectively and efficiently. To be the lead adviser to the Board, ensuring that all relevant matters relating to proper governance are brought to its attention and to carry lead responsibility for implementing the Board’s decisions. To ensure that standards and requirements set out by the Board and regulatory authorities are met. PRINCIPAL – PERSONAL SPECIFICATION EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE ESSENTIAL A significant and successful track record of strategic leadership, and management at senior executive level in a complex environment Extensive experience of building valuable and influential relationships with individuals and organisations at a local and national level Proven ability to deliver successful outcomes working with regional and national partners Knowledge of the complex educational and political environment in which the College operates A clear understanding of the role of FE in meeting the diverse needs of a city and rural region Proven ability to deliver ambitious, innovative and complex tasks and projects, with exceptional outcomes Experience of responsibility for financial accountability and governance SKILLS AND ABILITY ESSENTIAL A respected leader with a recognised ability to inspire others A passion for education and learners’ success An exceptional relationship builder with highly developed communication skills An innovative thinker with well-practiced analytical skills and judgements in complex and unique situations A strong sense of purpose and courage, with a personal drive to achieve Excellent skills in organisational communications – both verbal and written A competent user of information and communication technologies Determination to advance equality and diversity through all aspects of College life DESIRABLE Considerable experience as a senior executive in the education or training sector A sound understanding of issues relating to safeguarding young people and vulnerable adults Experience of working successfully with local and/or national government agencies DESIRABLE EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS ESSENTIAL A degree and/or professional qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area Strong evidence of engagement in professional and personal development DESIRABLE An appropriate management/leadership qualification and/or evidence of substantial professional development in leadership and management Credible experience of teaching or training
