iACT Being All Social The posts we share on our social networks must be filtered through our mission of cultivating peace and respect through interfaith dialogue, service and celebration. The goal is to inform about iACT and our programs, promote online dialogue (while keeping it safe and respectful) with thought provoking questions or articles and sprinkle in a nice bit of clean humor. Types of posts we want to avoid: o Political in nature o Divisive or Hateful o Unnecessarily Confrontational o Extremist Views Type of posts to look for: o Interfaith Dialogue o Local Faith Communities News o Local Affordable Housing o Local Refugee News o iACT Program related News o Events by iACT and Local Communities that Relate to Our Mission Type of posts to get approval for: o Controversial Issues o Sources with Questionable Creditability o Events that Do Not Directly tie into Our Mission o Global and National News Sometimes you will find a good post but the author or the website is suspect. I’ve found several good articles on a website or by an author who posted things that were hateful or divisive so I chose not to post the one good post. Anything iACT posts about connects us to it and in some people’s eyes implies we approve or advocate a particular stance. When in doubt, ask! With Facebook we want to post less frequently throughout the day, approximately 8 posts or less. The rest of the social networks we do not utilize as much. Currently our Google+ is an in between of Facebook and Twitter, approximately 20 posts a day. The average posts per day are usually less due to time needed to find the articles, read them, determine if its post worthy, and posting it. All Hail HootSuite! Luckily we have HootSuite to help the scheduling and managing the social networks. Currently we are running a free account with Facebook, Twitter and Google+ for iACT and Facebook and Twitter for EILN. It might make things easier to install the HootSuite browser plugin. In addition to learning how to use our social media outlets, tools and that are acceptable posts, I would like us to learn how we could better utilize the social networks. Things we could focus on, things to drop and new things to try. There is always something changing in the endless social sea. The more on top we can be of the trends the better we will be as an organization and we’ll look really smart while doing it! Feel free to send me ideas or something you would like to try that might not be the way we currently utilize social networks.
