QUEEN’S UNIVERSITY BELFAST _____________________ School of Nursing and Midwifery ____________________ Clinical Allocations - Elective Placement Information (Nursing) Elective Placement is the only occasion when students can request a placement area. Clinical Allocations aims to allocate students to one of the 3 specialism preferences submitted on an Elective Placement Form. Students can choose 3 specialism preferences, relevant to their Branch, across 3 placement areas There is no closing date for receipt of elective forms. The sooner forms are submitted, the more likely students will be allocated to first preference as students are allocated on ‘first-come first-served’ basis Requests for community electives will be considered but students who require a community experience to meet curriculum requirements will have priority in allocations to community placement areas Adults students undertake elective placements during Placements 6, 7 and 8 Mental Health, Learning Disability and Children’s students undertake elective placements during Placement 7 and 8 For all Branches, students undertake international elective placements during Placement 8 Students can request an elective placement in an area where previously allocated Students cannot request placements in maternity areas Adult branch students may not request electives in Northern or Western HSC Trusts which facilitate adult nursing students from the University of Ulster Students who transfer Branch and have completed an elective placement cannot undertake another elective placement Students should submit elective form by email to relevant Clinical Allocations Officer Elective Forms are available from the Clinical Allocations page on the School website www.qub.ac.uk/schools/SchoolofNursingandMidwifery/ClinicalAllocations/Do wnloadabledocuments/ Clinical Allocations will choose an ‘elective placement’ for students who do not submit an elective preference
