Clinical Allocations - Elective Placement Information (Nursing)
Elective Placement is the only occasion when students can request a placement area.
Clinical Allocations aims to allocate students to one of the 3 specialism preferences
submitted on an Elective Placement Form.

Students can choose 3 specialism preferences, relevant to their Branch,
across 3 placement areas

There is no closing date for receipt of elective forms. The sooner forms are
submitted, the more likely students will be allocated to first preference as
students are allocated on ‘first-come first-served’ basis

Requests for community electives will be considered but students who require
a community experience to meet curriculum requirements will have priority in
allocations to community placement areas

Adults students undertake elective placements during Placements 6, 7 and 8

Mental Health, Learning Disability and Children’s students undertake elective
placements during Placement 7 and 8

For all Branches, students undertake international elective placements during
Placement 8

Students can request an elective placement in an area where previously
allocated

Students cannot request placements in maternity areas

Adult branch students may not request electives in Northern or Western HSC
Trusts which facilitate adult nursing students from the University of Ulster

Students who transfer Branch and have completed an elective placement
cannot undertake another elective placement

Students should submit elective form by email to relevant Clinical Allocations
Officer

Elective Forms are available from the Clinical Allocations page on the School
website
www.qub.ac.uk/schools/SchoolofNursingandMidwifery/ClinicalAllocations/Do
wnloadabledocuments/

Clinical Allocations will choose an ‘elective placement’ for students who do
not submit an elective preference
