Someone Anonymous Com 114 Presenting Agriculture One of my main interests is agriculture, because I find everything about this field fascinating. There are a lot of ways that this topic could be presented. One way, is by informing the class about what all can be done in the field of agriculture especially the new advances in technology. The second way is by writing a speech that talks about FFA (Future Farmers of America), which is an agriculture organization that teaches students about not only agriculture but leadership. A third topic would be to present more specifically about animal science; which is what I find most interesting in the field of agriculture. The first way to handle the field of agriculture in a speech is by informing the people about what exactly agriculture is, what all is involved in this field, and what type of jobs one can attain. Agriculture is all around us in everything that we do, and many people take this for granted; from cutting down trees for buildings to putting many chemicals into natural bodies of water and just into the air in general. You can do so many things in the field of agriculture, ranging from animal science to horticulture or entomology (study of insects). Along with being able to have a wide range of career options, you can also work almost anywhere. The work places can be: in the nature at a State park, in the federal government (FDA), in the lab, and even in locations that are far away such as Africa (helping them with their agriculture production). There is so much more that can be learned from agriculture, but I only have a short amount of time to tell you about these three topics. The second speech that could be written is by talking about the largest organization in the nation, FFA, formerly known as the Future Farmers of America. For this point one could start by talking about all the different career development events (CDE’s) and leadership opportunities that students have. The career development events that are available to these students are: livestock or horse judging, soil judging, agriculture mechanics, welding, entomology, or even doing demonstrations; such as the conventions I attended at Purdue University, where we demonstrated our knowledge of insects. Those demonstrations in which I participated for entomology were completed as a team where we won state four years in a row. You can receive many degrees in FFA that have different requirements along the way. For example: for the green hand degree you have to be enrolled in one agriculture education course a year and be able to explain the creed, motto, salute, and mission statement. The requirements obviously get tougher for each degree. For instance, one thing you have to do for the chapter, state, and American degree is have a working SAE project. SAE stands for Supervised Agriculture Experience. An SAE can either be an entrepreneurship (work for self-such as with animals) or placement (work for someone). Along with doing the project you need to take accurate records so that they can be read by your instructor and it will make everything easier for when you go to fill out the State and American degrees. Now this is just an over view of what this speech would be about. I think that this would be interesting because not many people know what the FFA is or those that do just think that we are a bunch of farmers. The last topic that is to be presented is animal science. Animal science can vary from veterinary science to breeding and testing animals. Students that are pursuing an education in veterinary science are able to help out injured or sick animals by giving shots, bandaging them up, and nursing them back to health so that they can achieve their full potential. On the other hand, students that enter the sector of animal science that involves testing and breeding animals are able to find cures for a few human illnesses. For example: degus are not able to digest sugars, making them a good candidate for testing cures for diabetes. These are just some very condensed descriptions about the three topics that were presented throughout this essay, and I hope that it has made you want to discover even more for yourself.
