Environmental overview – September 2015
Lindfield Substation Project
Transport for NSW (TfNSW) is building a new, architecturally designed substation within the existing
rail corridor along Lindfield Avenue, Lindfield. The project also includes installing new overhead wires
in the rail corridor between Killara Station and Clanville Road, Roseville. Laing O’Rourke has been
appointed to undertake these works on behalf of TfNSW.
Work commenced on the substation in March, 2015 and is scheduled for completion in late 2016.
To date work at the substation has included:





The establishment of a site entry;
Installation of erosion and sediment controls;
Vegetation removal;
Excavation of bulk material; and
Construction of a retaining wall in order to establish a safe and effective working
environment for the future.
The Lindfield Substation Project is subject to Conditions of Approval (CoA) and operates in strict
compliance with these and all relevant environmental legislation.
The project has developed and implemented a range of environmental guidelines which are
included in the overarching Construction Environmental Management Plan. This document
includes a series of sub-plans such as:




A Noise and Vibration Management Plan;
A Soil and Water Management Plan;
A Waste Management Plan; and
Site Environmental Control Plan.
To-date works have been completed without any environmental incidents. Erosion and sediment
controls including sediment fencing, street sweeping and geofabric embankment controls have
been maintained and continue to work effectively.
Waste has been well managed and is regularly removed from site and noise disturbance impacts
have been low during all working hours. The achievement of an effective environmental
outcome has been supported by a series of regular community notifications and by effectively
managing possession weekends to limit the extent and intensity of night time works.
Future works will include the continual monitoring of all environmental risks and the ongoing
management and maintenance of the on-site environmental controls.
