Maria Sramek sramekm@hudson.edu Phone 330-653-1416 ext. 3557 This course continues your learning of Spanish with more emphasis on reading, speaking, and comprehension along with new grammar to improve your communication skills in the language. Your participation in the class is very important to your success and enjoyment of the class. To succeed in the class you need to follow some simple rules: ● ● ● ● ● ● come to class prepared (book, notebook) volunteer to answer questions participate in whole class and group discussion use the new vocabulary both during class and group activities ask questions when you need clarification plan on attending Explorer period if you need help TEXTBOOK: Realidades 2 REQUIRED MATERIALS: ● Notebook or folder for notes ● Internet access STUDENT EVALUATION: Your grade will be broken down as follows: ● 20% for formative assessments. These include homework, classroom work, and any other work as determined by the teacher. ● 80% for summative assessments. These include tests and quizzes both written and oral, projects, and other forms of assessment as assigned by the teacher HOMEWORK/LATE WORK: Homework and any other assignments must be handed in on the due date. Since we generally go over homework in class, homework will not be accepted late. Your homework is late if you do it in the classroom on the due date. You are responsible for missed homework and any other work done in the class when you are absent. Check the missed work files when you return. Projects and other non-homework assignments with a specific due date will be accepted a maximum of three days late with a letter grade reduction applied to each late day. CLASS EXPECTATIONS: ● BE RESPONSIBLE for knowing what needs to be done in the class (homework, projects, tests, quizzes) ● FOLLOW all school rules ● RESPECT each other’s personal space, property, and opinions ● BE PREPARED by bringing all the necessary supplies to class ACTION PLAN: It is your responsibility to check your grade on a regular basis. If the grade is a D, you need to make arrangements immediately to meet with me and discuss your course of action to improve your understanding of the material. Remember, I am here to help you succeed but it is ultimately your effort that will earn you a passing grade. CHEATING: Any evidence of cheating will receive the consequences established for such offense in the student handbook. Please note that the use of Google translator or any other translating service is considered cheating as well as the copying of homework, tests, quizzes, or projects. REALIDADES BOOK ONLINE As part of your classroom aid materials you will have access to the book online. There are activities on the site which you can use to practice what you learn. PLEASE NOTE: Studying vocabulary and new grammar in the Spanish class is a must for success.
