WELCOME TO WORSHIP
We are happy that you are here to worship with us and pray that the Lord bless you
through his Word in your time with us.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask one of the greeters or
anyone else who looks like they know what is going on.

Signs for the restrooms are near the table in back of entryway.

Parents, we know how hard it can be to get to church in the morning and are so
thankful that you have brought your children. We enjoy hearing children in
worship, but also understand that sometimes you may want to take them out.
There is a small nursery room in the back of the church with an audio feed of
worship.
Understanding the Church Year - Epiphany
The word epiphany means “manifestation” or “visible display” and during this season we celebrate the
“epiphany” of Christ as Savior (see Titus 3:4). On the Sundays between Jan. 6th and Ash Wednesday we
consider how the “true light,” Jesus Christ, was shown to be the Son of God and the Savior of all people
(both Jews and Gentiles). Epiphany provides us with a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the revealing
of God’s love and light in Jesus without the worldly distractions of the holiday season.

This order of worship builds on the heritage of the ancient rite of the Western Church and focuses our attention
on the Word of God and the gift of our Savior’s Sacrament.

God invites us to come into his presence and worship him with humble and
penitent hearts. Therefore, let us acknowledge our sinfulness and ask him to
forgive us.
C:
Holy and merciful Father, I confess that I am by nature sinful and that I have
disobeyed you in my thoughts, words, and actions. I have so often done what
is evil and failed to do what is good. For this I deserve your punishment both
now and in eternity. But I am truly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my Savior
Jesus Christ, I pray: Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.

Worship begins “in the name of” (invocation) the one true God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. At the
very beginning of worship we are reminded of the words spoken in baptism where God puts his name on
us. It is only because of God’s undeserved love for us that worship is even possible.

As we approach God in worship we are brutally honest about who we are, what we have done, and
what we deserve from God. Instead of hiding our sin, we run to the only solution – God’s mercy in Christ.

the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Therefore as a called servant of Christ and by his

Let us pray.
Almighty God, you gave your one and only Son to be the light of the world. Grant
that your people, illumined by your Word and sacraments, may shine with the
radiance of Christ’s glory, that he may be known, worshiped, and believed to the

THE FIRST LESSON
Isaiah 62:1-5
The Lord proclaims good news to Zion. God’s people are vindicated in the sight of all people. Whereas they
were once deserted and desolate, now they are the delight of the Lord.
1 For
Zion’s sake I will not keep silent,
for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain quiet,
till her vindication shines out like the dawn,
her salvation like a blazing torch.
2 The nations will see your vindication,
and all kings your glory;
you will be called by a new name
that the mouth of the LORD will bestow.
3 You will be a crown of splendor in the
LORD’s hand,
a royal diadem in the hand of your God.
4 No longer will they call you Deserted,
or name your land Desolate.
But you will be called Hephzibah,
and your land Beulah;
for the LORD will take delight in you,

The public reading from Scripture can be traced back to the synagogue service (Luke 4:16-21). From
Apostolic times the reading of carefully chosen lessons from the Apostles and Evangelists has been the
central part of Christian worship.

Ephesians 3:14-21
We, the people of God are filled with the Spirit. Through faith, Christ lives in our hearts. We can only begin to
grasp God’s love for us, how truly amazing it is.
14 For
this reason I kneel before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and
on earth derives its name. 16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you
with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your
hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may
have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and
high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—

John 2:1-11
1 On
the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there,
Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine was
gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”
4 “Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.”
5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial
washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.
7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim.
8 Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”
They did so, 9 and the master of the
banquet tasted the water that had been turned
into wine. He did not realize where it had
come from, though the servants who had
drawn the water knew. Then he called the
bridegroom aside 10 and said, “Everyone
brings out the choice wine first and then the
cheaper wine after the guests have had too
much to drink; but you have saved the best
till now.”
11 What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee
was the first of the signs through which he
revealed his glory; and his disciples believed

In the Sacrament we prepare ourselves to receive Christ’s body and blood along with the bread and
wine for the forgiveness of sins. This gift received in faith assures us of God’s love, strengthens our faith,
and empowers us for godly living.

DISTRIBUTION
About our Communion Practice: Living Savior practices member communion. The reason we do
this is that the Bible teaches that before a person comes to communion 1) they should recognize
that Christ’s body and blood are truly present in Holy Communion (1 Corinthians 11:29) and 2) also
share in a common faith based on the teachings of Scripture (1 Corinthians 10:17). For this reason, if
you are not a member of Living Savior or the WELS, we want to give you a chance
to learn what we believe and teach before we ask you to join us for communion.
Please speak to Pastor if you are interesting in finding out more or joining us for
communion in the future. Thank you.

front of the hymnal.

Annual Planning Meeting during Bible Hour today. We hope to get all of our major
events for the year on the calendar and refocus on our mission and vision, as we
consider how the privilege God has given us to share his Gospel. Lunch will be provided.
