Rocky Lockler Memorial Scholarship
for Continuing Education
Application Deadline: Thursday, March 3, 2014 – 5pm
The Rocky Lockler Memorial Scholarship was established in 1994 after the tragic death of Rocky Lockler, an active
4-H member in sheep and rabbits from Toledo. A minimum $1000 award is available to previous recipients of the
scholarship who are currently pursuing a higher education degree and are within the first 5 continuous years of
their education. This scholarship recognizes meritorious work and achievement in 4-H, especially an animal
science project, that shows leadership, character development and citizenship. On-going service to 4-H is
encouraged. Financial need is part of the selection criteria.
To apply for the Rocky Lockler Memorial Scholarship, please provide three sets of the following:
 Completed application (page 2 of this form)
 School transcript (unofficial accepted, subject to verification prior to award disbursement)
 One letter of recommendation or acknowledgement of ongoing merit
 Personal interview (to be scheduled by selection committee)
 Answer briefly (on a separate piece of paper) the following three questions (also listed on page 2):
1. Describe your 4-H involvement during the past year or what you have committed to do before
August of this year.
2. As a leader, what would you change with 4-H programs to enable 4-H youth to better learn life
skills, etc.?
3. How has what you learned in 4-H affected your college experience?
 Write an essay answering the following (also listed on page 2): Why are you pursuing a higher education?
How has the past year’s educational experience affected you?
Selection Process
The 4-H Extension Agent will arrange for a Scholarship Selection Committee with interviews and selection to take
place shortly after the application deadline. The application materials are available online to download or can be
mailed to individual candidates as needed. The Selection Committee will evaluate all candidates according to the
selection criteria as follows:

Special Note: Course work must commence within the academic year following the award. The scholarship must
be claimed within one year or forfeited back to the scholarship fund. Checks will be made out to the educational
institution in the name of the award recipient upon receipt in the county office of the name of the institution and
the student’s ID number.
