Volcano Project There are a variety of volcanoes spread throughout the world. Volcanoes come in all shapes and sizes. It is very popular to think that all volcanoes are big coneshaped mountains that explode with massive amounts of lava. You will learn that this statement is not always true. Mr. Henderson and Miss Wilson have compiled a list of volcanoes in which you will be assigned (groups up to 3). You will research and gather information on your volcano (details below) and then you will create a presentation of your information to the class on the IPADs. Along with the presentation you will also create a model of your assigned volcano. The following information must be provided: Slideshow: (2 points for including each) General Information: a) b) c) d) e) f) g) h) Volcano name Type of Volcano Location Map Coordinates Height (elevation) Crater Dimensions How much magma can it hold? (volume) General description of physical features of the volcano and area surrounding the volcano. i) Extra fun/ interesting facts page. Eruptions a) b) c) d) e) f) First eruption Most famous eruption Most recent eruption Duration of eruptions Eruption Type General description (damage, severity, # of people killed and injured) **Pictures** Make sure to include pictures (at least three) of your volcano. This should include pictures of the volcano in its current condition and the volcano before, during, and after eruption. I would also love pictures of you and your group working on your model (2 points) Works Cited page (3 points): You must have a works cited page at the end of your slideshow including: -At least 3 different sources. -The website, publishing date, author/company name for each source. Model (20 points): - Your model should represent the volcano you were assigned. Min Size is 8 inches. Max Size 24 inches. - The volcano does not have to function, but you can receive extra credit if it does. - Build on stable material (ex: piece of a cardboard box) so you can easily move it without demolishing it. - Be creative! Volcano should look realistic but you can add your own spin! Does it look like you spent time and worked hard? - Parts of volcanoes and unique properties of the volcano should be labeled (stick little flags into the model) - Must bring in source paper with at least two sources (websites) and what you learned from them about how to construct a model volcano. **This part of the project you can do at school or at home! Research different ideas of how to make a volcano model in order to complete this! Presentation (10 points): -Must be prepared/ organized. -Need to seem like you know what you are taking about (did research) -Group collaboration (all members presenting) -Professionally dressed -Presentation looks neat and easy to read.
