People Handling Refresher/Update

This half day course aims to refresh those workers who have previously undertaken a “New
Starter course“ and are involved in settings where manual handling of people is routinely
undertaken. The course will give you the underpinning information required and you will be
assessed in a real work situation as required by the awarding body.
The nature of this course involves practical activities for which good physical health and
mobility is important. Anyone who has concerns about the practical activities should contact
the trainer prior to the course. Delegates must wear appropriate clothing and footwear.
After the course you will receive a Certificate of Attendance and will be able to move and
handle people safely.

Infection Prevention and Control

colonisation, pathogen and fomite. Be aware of notifiable diseases, understand the
difference between local and systemic infection. Be aware of organism resistance,
understand the Chain of Infection, Understand how to minimise infection and maximise
prevention using best practice. Understand good hand-washing technique and its
importance; be aware of definition of an outbreak and response to same

aware of legislative and regulatory requirements relating to prevention and control of
infection.

Stroke Awareness

Understand the care needs following stroke or TIA, Understand the effects of stroke/TIA on
emotional, spiritual and psychological well-being. Have an awareness of some of the special
dietary needs that may be present after stroke or TIA. Understand the importance of
person- hood and dignity in care following stroke/TIA, Understand the impact of altered
Mental Capacity in relation to stroke and TIA and be aware of some treatments used to
prevent and treat stroke/TIA.
