Graveyard Tour – Thursday, July 17 th 8:00 PM
Natchez City Cemetery was established in 1822 and covers approximately 100 acres of land. Markers with dates of deaths in the late 1700’s testify to the fact that the remains were also moved from churchyards and private plantation burial grounds.
Romantic, tragic, and mysterious tales lie buried in the old graves. Numerous beautiful, creatively designed iron fences, benches, iron mausoleum doors, tombstones, and monuments are found within the cemetery. The varied patterns of ironwork represent almost the entire spectrum of ironwork produced in America in the 19th and early 20th Centuries. Artistically sculptured markers with oftenpoignant inscriptions add to the unique character of the burial ground.
Please wear comfortable walking shoes – it will be worth it!!!!
Tour of Homes “Beyond the Front Door”- Saturday, July 19 th at 4:00- 6:00 PM
This is an exclusive, must-do experience! It consists of a privately-guided tour through the city of Natchez. Secret places will be highlighted, including the location where the movie “Get on Up” was filmed, which told the story of James Brown and was directed by “The Help’s” Tate Taylor, a native of Mississippi. The tour will also highlight frequently talked about spots that have been featured in novels by
Natchez’s very own Greg Iles. Two private homes will host MSHP with tours and special refreshments! Please join us for this unique opportunity.
