Female Audition Piece
Ichabod: Are you alright?
Katrina: Yes. I’m fine. No. I…
Ichabod: Would you like to sit down?
Katrina: No. I like it here. It’s that… I feel like so many things are happening that I can’t
control. Things happening to me that I have no say in. My mother even told me this would
happen. She said that my life would really not be about me or what I wanted. I am learning,
because I have to, how to not be angry about it. But my parents, my own parents, tricked me just
now and humiliated me and they want me to marry Brom. But he’s...he’s...he’s…a troll. He’s
callous and cruel. Yes, he’s rich, but what about me? What about Cricket? It seems so much like
they don’t care.
Male Audition Piece
Katrina: Where are you from? What about your family?
Ichabod: My family… I am from Connecticut. My father drank, but he was not pleasant like
Pastor Quiggins. He was… violent. My mother was gentle, but finally she could take no more of
him and she ran away. My father searched for her, but I am happy to say that he never found her.
Katrina: She didn’t come back for you? Her son?
Ichabod: No. I truly think she wanted to, but she was too afraid. After she left, I avoided him as
much as I could, spending a great deal of time with the schoolmaster. He helped me along to
university and I have not seen my father since. That was ten years ago. I feel silly as well. I don’t
usually talk about these things.
