Popular compressor in high-efficiency heat pumps now offers 20 percent turndown improvement
St. Louis, January 22, 2013 – Following its successful production launch in 2011, the
Copeland Scroll™ variable speed compressor has delivered improved efficiency and
energy savings, while garnering industry awards and being embraced by OEMs and
contractors. The compressor, developed by Emerson Climate Technologies, Inc., a
business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR), has now been improved even further to offer 20
percent more capacity turndown to 1500 rpm, which translates to greater comfort and
energy savings for homeowners.
Designed for high efficiency heat pump and air conditioning systems, Emerson’s
Copeland Scroll variable speed compressor has been popular with contractors, who
have seen the installed heat pumps achieve an unprecedented 13 HSPF (Heating
Seasonal Performance Factor), 20+ SEER efficiency, as well as up to 40 percent greater
year-round energy savings for their customers over standard heat pumps.

Due to increased interest in high efficiency systems by both contractors and
homeowners, the company has developed the Emerson e-Saver™ mobile app that
helps contractors quickly calculate and show homeowners the annual cost savings of
high efficiency systems. Contractors input current system efficiency standards, along
with their considered replacement option for comparison. The Emerson e-Saver mobile
app allows for these system options to be compared to current industry minimum
standards, as well as a high efficiency heat pump featuring the Copeland Scroll variable
