John Adams was so proud of avoiding war with France, during his
Presidency, that he was said to have requested “He avoided war
with France” engraved on his tombstone.
Your Assignment:
A. Create a tombstone of one of America’s first Presidents. On this tombstone engrave
their finest accomplishment. Your tombstone must include all of the components
below.
1. Details -- Have the Presidents full name, birth and death dates, and their finest
accomplishment
2. Format -- Create a tombstone in any format that suits you. It can be a piece of
cardboard, Styrofoam, poster board, or paper.
3. Effort -- Color the tombstone and make it look as real as possible.
B. Write a two paragraph Eulogy of this President that includes all of the components
below.
1. Scholarly Sources -- Uses at least three scholarly sources
2. Parenthetical Citations -- Quotes one source in the paper and parenthetically
cites it
3. Bibliography -- Cites all sources in a bibliography
4. Biography Paragraph -- Has a first paragraph that serves as biography.
5. “Will be remembered for” Paragraph -- Has a second paragraph that describes
the fame, prominence and major successes of the president
6. Format – The eulogy is typed in Times New Roman Font 12’, is double-spaced and
has 1” margins
7. Writing Conventions – Writing displays proper grammar, spelling, punctuation,
paragraph structure, and organization
8. Proofreading – The eulogy has been proofread to eliminate obvious mistakes
