5. Online Forum – comments on the proposed e-mail
Dr Churchill will circulate to the group via the e-mail address.
6. Introduction of an information video screen in waiting rooms
The screen has been ordered and Linda will ask Ed to chase this up. There was discussion on
its use and the messages which will be displayed.
7. National Association of Patient Participation
Linda will circulate the newletters to the group via w-mail.
8. Report from Nottingham West CCG Patient Reference Group meeting
Ali Harvey reported on matters from the last PRG meeting.
It has been suggested that the frequency of the meeting is reduced with speakers being
invited.
There is to be a course for patients with mental health problems and Bestwood Ward will
close with patients transferring to Sutton in Ashfield.
NUH is not meeting its A&E targets.
There was much discussion regarding the mystery shopper for checking on access.
Representatives from some practices are not in favour of the mystery shopper telephone calls.
Alternatives were discussed by the group. Our group decided to see whether it would work if
they looked for available appointments online. Linda pointed out that not all appointments
are available for online booking at present but she will look into whether they can be and let
the group know if this is actioned.
9. Update on actions to ease difficulties in making appointments
Dr Churchill updated the group on the new system of only making urgent appointments on
the day and having an amount of appointments embargoed for 72 hours so that patients can
be offered an appointment within the timescale. This would not necessarily be with the
preferred doctor or preferred time, but would meet the targets. So far this seems to be going
quite well, with The Valley offering telephone appointments as well as an alternative when
appropriate.
10. Tram Update
Parking continues to be a problem with Linda spending a good deal of time acting as car park
monitor! Concerns were expressed regarding the lack of a crossing from the temporary car
park and members of the group will attempt to put pressure on NET to change this.
11. Any Other Business
The regulations around surgeries running their own pharmacy were discussed.
Awareness of possible telephone scams was raised. There have been some cases of people
being telephoned by companies offering to collect and deliver their medication, suggesting
that they know which surgery the person is registered at. Members were reassured that any
such information would not come from the surgery.
Dr Churchill informed the group about ongoing work around the latest directives from the
NHS;
The practice is required to ensure that all patients who are over 75 years have a named GP.
Patients are being told verbally or by letter who this is, but it does not change their care or
their choice of which doctor they wish to see.
The practice is also required to put in place a care plan for the patients who from risk factors,
are at the highest risk of re-admission to hospital to try to avoid this.
