Rvsd 2-23-15 PRESIDENTIAL GRADUATE STUDENT INITIATIVE FY16 Presidential Scholars Program – Documentation Form Request Goal and Program Requirements: The Presidential Scholars Program is a comprehensive effort to recruit high-quality doctoral students in strategic program areas. Proposals are submitted once per year via the academic colleges with their prioritized recommendations for the cohort. Each program that is selected to receive funding for a presidential scholar is then expected to recruit an additional high quality new PhD student (beyond what they would otherwise have recruited). The program will continue in slightly modified form for FY16. For FY16, (new PhD students primarily entering in fall 2015) there is a target of awarding 32 new presidential scholarships with the following characteristics: (1) Funding from the presidential scholar program will be $30,000 for stipend and fringe benefits for an initial appointment of 12 months. (This equates to a monthly stipend of $2,212 for a 12 month appointment.) (2) The home college of the scholar will provide the tuition scholarship. (3) The academic unit (department/program/major professor or some combination thereof) agrees to provide at least a second year of support at the same level. This second year of support can be for less than 12 months, if that is the normal procedure in the program; however, the monthly stipend amount is expected to be $2,212/mo. (4) Funding is primarily intended for new PhD students entering ISU in fall 2015, but funding will be available for new PhD students entering ISU anytime between May 15, 2015 and January 2016. In addition, scholarship allocations from FY 2015 that have not yet been awarded will carry forward. All scholarships awarded to scholars beginning study at ISU after May 2015 will be at the $30,000 for 12 months (stipend and benefits, $2,212 monthly stipend), including “carry forward” scholarships that have not yet been awarded from the FY 2015 allocation. Process: Once the awarded programs have identified the recipients for Presidential Scholar funding, the program completes the information below and forwards this completed form to the Presidential Scholar’s academic college. The academic college is responsible for certifying the requirements of the program are met. After approval by the college, the administrative contact forwards an electronic copy of this form to Dave Holger holger@iastate.edu and Ann Guddall aguddall@iastate.edu. The funds will be transferred by the graduate college when the students are put on appointment. The administrative contact will need to notify Ann Guddall when the funds transfer is needed (i.e., the Scholar has been put on appointment) and provide her with the account number to be used for the central funds transfer. Please contact David Holger if there are questions regarding the program or Ann Guddall for questions on this documentation form. I.
