CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
1. Eligibility: Artists must have an intellectual disability and must be a New Zealand citizen or a
permanent resident of New Zealand aged 13 years or older at the time of entry.
Artists DO NOT have to be using IHC/IDEA Services. The artwork must have been completed by
the artist listed on the entry form, with minimal help from others.
2. Medium: All types of artwork are eligible, including drawing, painting, collage, photography,
sculpture or craft. Artwork must be original and created by the artist. Maximum size is 2m x 3m, or
in the case of sculpture/craft no larger than 1m x 1m x 1m. No photos of artworks can be entered.
3. Judging: The selection of finalists and awarding of first, second and third prizes is made by a panel
of three judges. The decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into. A further
prize – a People’s Choice award will be selected through website voting.
4. Closing date – 4pm Friday 27 June 2014: Late entries will not be accepted. Artwork, entry form and
checklist must be delivered to one of the regional centres (listed below) between 3 June and 27
June 2014.

Regional judging: Ten finalists will be chosen from each of the three regions – a total of 30 finalists.
UPPER NORTH ISLAND: Covers Cape Reinga down to Otorohanga, Turangi, Coromandel to Opotiki,
and Hicks Bay (including Auckland, Hamilton, Taupo, Rotorua, Tauranga, Thames and Whangarei).

LOWER NORTH ISLAND: Covers Taranaki to Wellington, Gisborne, Wairoa, Hawke’s Bay, Wairarapa
(including Palmerston North, Paraparaumu, Masterton and the Hutt Valley).

SOUTH ISLAND: Covers the whole of the South Island and Stewart Island.

Artwork: Only one artwork per artist may be entered. The work must have been completed
between 1 July 2013 and 27 June 2014 to be eligible.

Reproduction/publication of artwork: All artists must be willing to participate in publicity or media
stories and agree to the publication or reproduction of their work by IHC at any time to promote
this and future Art Awards for people with intellectual disabilities, without payment of any fee,
royalty or commission.
8. Framing and presentation: Please send artwork framed or mounted. Quality materials as well as
framing or mounting can greatly enhance artworks and their chance of success. For advice about
framing, contact the regional studios.
9. Sale of artwork: All artwork must be available for sale. The sale price artists place on their work for
regional exhibitions will become the reserve or minimum price should their work be selected as a
finalist and go forward for auction in Wellington. One hundred percent of the sale price will be paid
to the artists, if the work is sold at exhibitions or auction.
10. Pricing artworks: Please be realistic when setting sale prices. Finalists need to be aware that their
work may reach a higher price at auction, but this is not guaranteed. Artworks should be priced
depending on the following:
- medium
- size
- complexity
- cost of production (eg framing costs)
- previous sales history
11. Notification to finalists: As soon as each regional judging is over, artists who have been selected as
finalists will be notified. Artists who are not finalists are asked to pick up unsold art as soon as the
exhibition is over. Please include a stamped, self-addressed envelope so we can easily notify you.
Note that art bases that send multiple artworks only need to provide one envelope per group.
12. Event night: The work of the 30 finalists work will be exhibited at the Alpha Art Studio in Wellington
during August. The works will then be displayed and the winners announced on Thursday 28 August
2014 at the Renouf Foyer, Michael Fowler Centre, Wellington. The original artworks must be
available for the night.
13. Risk: All entries are submitted at the sole risk of the artists. IHC accepts no liability for any loss or
damage and shall not be required to provide insurance cover for the entries.
14. Return of artwork: Artists are expected to organise collection of their own artwork. Artworks must
be collected from the regional galleries between 31 July and 1 September. Please note that any
artwork not collected by 1 September will be recycled. Finalists’ artwork not sold at live auction in
Wellington will be returned to the artists.
15. Checklist: Artists must complete the attached Checklist along with the entry form and attach both
to the artwork – this will ensure you have submitted an eligible application for the Art Awards. It
would help if could also attach a photograph of the artwork to the entry form in case the form
becomes separated from the work.
