Meeting Summary from June 17, 2013 reviewed. (1st: Jeter, 2nd Carter) Old Business North River WMP Implementation Plan Update (North River Project Committee) Coordinator Report Attached BMP Update (Abner Patton): 5 BMPs scheduled to be installed. To date, 400 tons of sediment has been captured. Education Update: Museum of Natural History (Allie Sorlie): Presented mock-up of the 8 page coloring book with watershed education activities. Cribbs Mill Creek Kathleen Kilpatrick reported that Sassafras (Cribbs Mill Creek leadership) hosted an Alabama Water Watch training June 29th. Patti Hurley (ADEM) was the instructor and nine (9) attendees were certified in chemical and biological testing. Requested identification of a funding source to purchase test kits. Cribbs Watershed Management Plan: No new updates (Kellie Johnston) New Business: What is RC&D: Kellie Johnston provided a presentation on “What is RC&D??”. Cawaco Resource Conservation & Development Council Inc. holds the grant to support the North River Watershed Management Project on behalf of the Black Warrior Clean Water Partnership. Kellie explained that RC&D Councils exist to provide coordination and support to assist “local people solving local problems.” Examples of previous coordinated projects were given. Reports: ADEM: Clear Water Blues Erosion & Sediment Control Workshop scheduled for October 8-10. Low Impact Development Manual is being developed by Auburn University. Geological Survey of Alabama: (Anne Wynn) Big Canoe Creek is the current area of SHU focus Alabama Forestry Commission: (Jim Jeter) AFC biologist has been re-assigned as the primary contact for AFC on threatened and endangered species. Water Policy: (Bennett Bearden) Water Policy Draft is in progress and will be submitted to the Governor in December, 2013. Bennett encouraged all stakeholders to send in comments. Geological Survey of Alabama and the Alabama Office of Water Resources will be conducting water quality surveys (surface and groundwater) in October, 2013. Stormwater Programs: o City of Tuscaloosa: Inspecting sites and performing limited residential dredging. Reviewing sites to ensure that BMP plans submitted are followed. ADEM currently performing site visit and audit of stormwater program. o City of Northport: No update o Tuscaloosa County: No representative Facilitator Report: o Black Warrior CWP Steering Committee, June 26. Approved 2013-2014 Plan of Work o Holt Lake Clean Up: August 10, Rocky Branch Park o Encouraged attendance at the Alabama Water Resource Conference o Barry Fagan with AL DOT will be the scheduled speaker for the August meeting. Mr. Fagan will discuss and request comments regarding the upcoming I 20/59 work. Other outreach/contacts/new partners activities UA students, Howard, Pierce and Carter, working on poster preparation for the Alabama Water Resource Conference (Sept 2013) entitled “Beyond Source Water Protection – A Case Study from North River.” UA Geography Department will financially contribute towards student participation in Conference Reporting The current funded Grant period will end December 2013. Additional funding has been approved by ADEM. Next report due September 30, 2013 Final report for Phase I due December 31, 2013.
