Clay County and City of Spencer Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Intern Job Posting Position Title: GIS Summer Intern Position Length: May to August (depending on schedules) Wages: $10.50 - $12.50 /hr Reports To: GIS Coordinator and Planning Director Purpose of Position: Responsible for collecting GPS Section points throughout Clay County, creating and maintaining a GIS database, reading and interpreting aerial imagery, map production, spatial analysis, and GIS product distribution. Provide general GIS support for County and City employees and the general public. Essential Functions: Collecting GPS point within Clay County and the City of Spencer. Creating and maintaining GIS databases. Preparing maps and data requested by County and the City of Spencer. Marginal Functions: Providing GIS support to County and City employees and general public Perform other duties as directed or as the situation dictates. Education and Experience: Students pursuing a degree or advanced degree in GIS, Geography, or related area Knowledge of Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and experience in field work Knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS 10 software (specifically ArcMap, ArcPad, ArcCatalog) Ability to interpret a land description is an additional benefit Knowledge of Microsoft Office (specifically Access & Excel) Qualifications/Competency Statements: Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly Ability to work independently and in a team environment Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, including well written reports with good sentence structure and minimal, if any, punctuation, spelling, and grammar errors in English To be detail oriented, organized, and timely to complete tasks and/or goals Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and customers Ability to operate standard office equipment Must possess a valid driver’s license and proof of liability insurance Essential Physical Demands and Typical Working Conditions: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
