It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. The post is located at the UN-Habitat office in Kuwait and reports to the Head of Kuwait Office. Duties and Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of the Head of office, the incumbent will perform and will be responsible for assisting the office in all Advocacy and Partnerships related functions. Specific duties and responsiblities of the post, inter alia, include the following: - Communication and Partnership Strategy: Provide general administrative and technical support for advocacy and promotion of UN-Habitat’s mandate, mission and campaigns at country level (“visibility”) among partners; & Assist in establishing and maintaining contacts to press and Public Relations (PR) departments in partner institutions and advice on outreach activities with press and other communication target groups. Knowledge management/ Reporting: Facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing within the office and the Arab Region; & Assist in the creation and maintenance of knowledge management systems (library, photo database, press monitoring, etc.) Publications: Assist in developing new and maintaining and improving existing PR and communication materials (such as fact sheets, standardized presentations, webpage, brochures, newsletters, films, etc.). Media (website) Management: Support the creation, further development and maintenance of Saudi Programme website, social media presence, newsletter, etc. Coordination/ Networking: Liaise closely with substantive experts and Project Managers, UNHabitat Project Office and Branches at HQs, sister UN agencies, in order to support coherent information collection, analysis and dissemination. Event Management and Documentation: Assist in preparation and implementation of delegation visits to Saudi Programme as well as organisation of meetings, workshops and conferences; & Documents programme activities. Media: Produce articles, press releases and other materials for UN-Habitat/Saudi programme media, external media and social media on activities, projects and programmes. Education: Advanced university degree in communications, journalism, public relations, social sciences or in a related field (e.g. media studies, development studies, political science, economics, etc.). A firstlevel university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Excellent writing skills are essential. Good computer skills and very solid communications skills are required. Experience: At least five years of progressive experience in public relations, communications and advocacy or related field involving the preparation and implementation of communication strategies, management of public events, establishment of working relationships with various media, capacity to work in a complex institutional environment involving government, international agencies, private sector and civil society organizations. In depth knowledge of the local and international media in the region. Strong interest in issues concerning urban development. Understanding of urban development paradigms and socio-political situation of the Arab Region and the respective sub-regions. Language: Fluency in English is required. Arabic (both oral and written) is preferable. Knowledge of another UN language such as French is an advantage. Capable of working in multi-national/cultural enviorment and flexiblity in understanding and accepting diferent assisngments. Able to work under pressure. Maintain confidentiality with regard to all work related issues. Kknowledge of UN administrative rules and financial regulations is an advantage.
