HHHS TENNIS AUGUST PRACTICE AND MATCH PLAN
MONDAY, AUGUST 3, 2015: PRACTICE BEGINS

It is highly recommended that you practice, do conditioning work, and play tournaments, especially
USTA, this Summer before attending these practice sessions. Our goal is to qualify for the Varsity
Team Tennis Regionals (Finish in top 4 of District then top 2 at Area). To give us a chance to reach that
goal we need to have a lot of Court Rats that also are able and interested in gaining extra competitive
experience that is available outside of school tennis. If you cannot do USTA then, as much as possible,
practice with adult tennis players that have high school, college, or tournament experience or practice
with players on our team or on other high school teams all summer.

IMPORTANT: All players must be cleared by the HH Athletic Trainers by having their PHYSICALS (new
physicals for 9th and 11th graders) and everyone must have all required paperwork completed before
practicing or playing matches. There are free physicals on Thursday, May 21 arranged by HHHS for
those needing physicals. Otherwise, if you need a new physical for 2015-16, you must make your own
arrangements.

Those players that will be in 7th period will practice from 8 to 11 am
Aug 3 – 6th and Aug 11 and 13th

Those players that will be in 6th period will practice from 1 to 2:30 pm
Aug 3 – 6th and Aug 11 and 13th

Coach Hilley will inform each player currently on HH Campus which class period they will be in next
year. He will do this at the conclusion of the ladder tournament. New incoming players will start with
the 6th period group unless approved by Coach Hilley to be with the 7 th period group.

August 17-20 practice will be moved to 4:30 to 6:30 due to Teacher Meetings this week. These
practices are for those in the 7th period class in order to prepare for the upcoming Varsity Team Tennis
matches that will be played before school starts. Those players assigned to 6th period will begin
practice after school starts.

Matches that are currently scheduled for Varsity before school starts are listed below:
Be aware that more matches may be added, but nothing like last year. This year we have 10 matches
scheduled before school starts, last year there were 19. We need some days to practice, rest, and
regroup between matches.

Varsity or JV, HH, Show.

Items needed/suggested before practicing:
* Bring a ½ gallon or gallon Igloo style jug. We will provide water and ice but not something to
drink out of. If the coaches were to provide cups, the coaches would end up picking up all the cups
thrown or left all over the tennis area. It would be nice if you purchase red or black jugs. There is a
shelf in the tennis shed for you to store your jug after you have emptied it so it can air dry without
mold forming.
* Sunscreen, you will thank us when you get old….
* Bring 2 rackets preferably of the same brand and model with the same strings. If you decide to
purchase rackets I suggest getting rackets that are or have been used on the Pro Circuit. Test out other
players rackets and/or do an internet search of popular brands such as Wilson, Prince, Head, Babalot,
etc.
* Specific Shoes Tennis: no running shoes or fashion shoes. This is for safety reasons (lateral
movement) and to not damage or mark up the courts.
DON’T WEAR NO RUNNING SHOES ON NO COURTS AT NO TIME

It would be helpful for text communication if we could get the cell numbers of parents and players.
Players and parents, please send Coach Hilley a text from your phones to 254-718-4734 with your
name and state if you are a player or parent of a student. Also, your email address would be helpful.
