Renaissance Art Webquest and Powerpoint Presentation
Directions : For this assignment you will be using internet archives of Renaissance
art to answer the question, « How does the artwork of the Renaissance reflect the
new philosophy of the Renaissance ? » You will be presenting your analysis in the
form of a powerpoint presentation in front of the class.
Step 1 : Choosing your artists
Directions : Choose one of the artists to research for your project .
*Leonardo da Vinci
*Michaelangelo
*Raphael
*Boticelli
Step 2 : Doing your research
Directions : After you have chosen your artist, use the internet search engines and
online databases to research their artwork.
Tip : A good way to search through artwork is to use the yahoo search engine by
clicking the « IMAGES » option at the top of the webpage.
Key things to look for with your artists :
1. What is the style or specialtiy that you can observe for each artist ?
2. What is their background or life experience, and how did that experience
effect their artwork ?
3. How was it possible for the artist to accomplish his artwork ? Did he have a
patron ?
Step 3 : Making your Comparison
After you have researched your Renaissance artists, perform a search on artwork
from the Middle Ages. Use your analysis of the Medieval artwork to answer the
following questions :
1. How does the artwork from the middle ages reflect the ideas and
philosophies from that time period ?
2. What comparisons or contrasts can you see between artwork from the
Middle Ages and artwork from the Renaissance ?
Step 4 : Creating your Project
For this project you will be creating a presentation on your analysis using
Powerpoint. You will be required to include the following slide format :
1. A title slide with your name and hour
2. An introductory slide summarizing your findings in comparing Renaissance
and Medieval artwork.
3. You will need to include a background information slide for your artist.
4. You will need to include three pieces of artwork for your artist and an
explanation of how each piece of artwork demonstrates the ideas and
philosophies of the Renaissance.
*How do you do this ? When you find a piece of art that you would like to
include in your powerpoint, you can right click on the picture, copy it and
then paste it into your presentation. You can then resize it to fit your screen.
*Note : Some pictures may be copyrighted and will not allow you to copy or paste
them. If this happens, please see Mrs. Isaacson.
Your powerpoint presentation must include a minimum of these 6 slides to have a
complete grade. Please feel free to include more slides if needed.
