1) Call to Order: Welcome & Introductions | Laura Beaune & Shannon Morrison
2) Approval of December Meeting Minutes | Christine Pachelo & Ellen Fowler
3) Update of Latest Ward Meeting | Jill Nurse
 Topics covered included how to best engage parents in Parent Council, how to
outreach and bi-laws that govern Parent Councils
 Ellen to investigate LotsOfHelpingHands.com – an online tool to help with
volunteer sign up
 Discussion around establishing Parent Council representative in each classroom,
as well as Parent Council presence at Kindergarten info nights
 Summary / handout from Ward Meeting will be distributed
4) Committee Updates – Laura Beaune
 Kew Café – Catherine looking for co-volunteers to help her with the 3
Wednesdays per month she runs it solo
 Family Skate Night – this Friday
 PIAC dinner event – two tickets up for grabs
5) Principal’s Update – Sarah Nauman
 February 25 - Social Media workshop / session
 February 4 – First year Kew Beach is taking place in Lit Club Quiz





February 13 – PA Day
February 18 – Grade 6 graduation photos
February 10 – Report cards go home
February 24 & March 3 – Ski Trip for Grades 4, 5 and 6
Spread the Net – we’re #1 primary school! Over $7K raised so far. With final
fund-raising being a Dance-a-Thon on February 12
6) Treasurer’s Report – Laura Beaune
 Not a lot of ins & outs recently, and a nice healthy budget still
 Chairs looking ahead at expenses coming up – in-school year - to ensure our
balance is properly used
7) Fundraising Update – Christine Pachelo & Stephanie Hurst
 Annual BeachFest scheduled for Thursday May 28
o Repeating a lot of the great things that worked last year: food trucks,
tables for eating, bouncy castles, activities, all-you-can-jump wristbands,
online eCommerce site to purchase tickets etc. ahead of time
o Volunteers needed: volunteer coordinator to help run the 75 volunteers
needed on the day
 Pizza Lunch Lead needed for the 2015/2016 school year, to be on-boarded this
year
 Suggesting a “volunteer drive” brainstorm for next meeting
8) Social Justice Update – Tim Ormand
 Some issues around generating support / volunteers to help support this
committee
 Decision needs to be made whether we continue to donate 15% of our raised
funds to social justice commitments – and what to best used the donated funds
for
 Due to Tim’s work with the Armed Forces, he will need back up in this role –
especially in May and June
9) New Human Development & Sexual Health, Parent Consultation
 Not an ideal process & turn-around time
 Co-chairs shared with PIAC that they had concerns around this process
10) Succession Planning for Co-Chairs
 Will spend bulk of March meeting discussing succession plan for Council
positions that are opening up next year – including Co-Chairs
