Columbia University Medical Center and New York Presbyterian Hospital’s Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Post-Doctoral Fellowships in Neuropsychological Assessment of Learning Disabilities and Related Disorders Columbia University Medical Center and New York Presbyterian Hospital’s Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry are accepting applications for two different Post-Doctoral Fellowships in Neuropsychology beginning July and September of 2015. PROMISE Program Clinical Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Neuropsychological Assessment of Learning Disabilities and Related Disorders There are three, two-year, full-time clinical post-doctoral positions based at Columbia University Medical Center and the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of New York Presbyterian (CHONY). The Promise Program Clinic is part of the outpatient Pediatric Psychiatry clinic. The Promise Program provides comprehensive neuropsychological assessment to underserved children with learning, attention, and behavior/psychiatric difficulties. We have a subspecialty Spanish Bilingual Program at Promise, including training and supervision in bilingual neuropsychological assessment for applicants with strong Spanish language. Training focuses on providing thorough and comprehensive neuropsychological assessment of learning and related disorders, with strong training in a developmental model. There will also be opportunities for assessing young children and children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, as well as limited opportunity to evaluate children with medical/neurological complications. Many patients present with complex comorbid psychiatric histories and fellows collaborate regularly with CHONY mental health professionals. Fellows also obtain training in how to interface and collaborate with school systems, including conducting school observations and attending IEP meetings. Training in educational/legal advocacy is also provided and there is some exposure to treatment issues and research. Intensive supervision is provided for all fellows, as well as regular case conferences and didactics. In the second year, fellows also have opportunities for community presentations and lectures, as well as experience in supervising psychology externs. DeHirsch-Robinson Clinical/ Research Post-Doctoral Fellowship There is one, two-year, full-time post-doctoral clinical/research position based at Columbia University Medical Center and the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of New York Presbyterian (CHONY). This fellowship is specific to reading disorders and related conditions and impairment. The fellow will devote 50% effort to clinical training and 50% effort to research training. Clinical training is provided through the Promise Program clinic, as described above. The fellow will participate in monthly CUMC Child Psychiatry Division research meetings with other trainees and faculty, as well as weekly research meetings and seminars with other post-doctoral research fellows. Specific research goals are developed with the identified mentors, and opportunities include participation in existing research as well as development of original work. The DeHirsch Fellow is active in community outreach regarding dissemination of evidence-based information on learning disabilities, as well as assisting in planning and organizing professional events such as a daylong conference on learning disabilities at CUMC. Salary for each fellowship is competitive and benefits are provided. Prior psychological testing and clinical experience with children and families is required and candidates must possess excellent clinical and written communication skills. Previous research experience in neuropsychology or clinical psychology, as well as a targeted interest in reading disorders is required for the DeHirsch fellowship. Candidates who are fluent in Spanish or have strong Spanish language skills are especially encouraged to apply to either fellowship opportunity.
