Eureka! News Release For immediate release: Monday 13 August 2012 Eureka! Chief Exec’s Three Peaks challenge raises over £2k for new gallery Leigh-Anne Stradeski, Chief Executive of Eureka! The National Children’s Museum, last week joined her two sons Nathan and Cameron to embark on climbing the Three Yorkshire Peaks to raise money for the £2.9m redevelopment of the museum’s Me & My Body gallery, due to open in spring 2013. Lead-funded by The Wellcome Trust with a grant of £1.45m, Eureka! is now on the final leg of its fundraising campaign with around £450,000 still to raise. Leigh-Anne’s 3 Peaks Challenge involved conquering Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in less than 12 hours within an organised party of around 40 ‘Three Peakers’. Commenting on her uphill Saturday with a difference, Leigh-Anne said “The Three Peaks Challenge seemed like the perfect way of raising both money and awareness for this important new gallery, particularly as its primary focus is to help children and families learn about their bodies, how to look after them through exercise and to make sensible choices about food and nutrition. Given Great Britain, and Yorkshire’s, performance in The Olympics we’re hoping our new gallery will do its part in inspiring a new generation. “ “I’d like to personally thank everyone who has made a generous donation in support of my challenge, and if anyone would like to add to the pot my fundraising page is still open at the following link https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/stradeskis until 4 September.” The new Me & My Body gallery, which has been designed in consultation with experts in health and nutrition as well as the NHS, is due to open in spring 2013. The current gallery, which has attracted over 5.5m visitors in its 20 year history, will close on November 6 for redevelopment.
